And I'm that over-emotional theatre-goer who cried during Hairspray.
Funny, so did I! I still find 'You Can't Stop the Beat' a very moving song.
And yes, there's been talk about them changing the line if Bush doesn't get re-elected. Let's hope they're forced to change the line!

Sure, they'll change the George Bush line. All they need is something else with two syllables to fill in the space.
bombay dreams goes
caroline or change goes (don't flame me i'm just not a fan of that style of show)
"caroline or change goes (don't flame me i'm just not a fan of that style of show)"
I loved "Caroline, or Change" but I agree with you that it won't have too long of a run. It's too difficult of a show to get through and tourists aren't attracted to shows of that nature.
I think Caroline will go too, I didn't like the show but that's got nothing to do with it. I just don't think it'll find a big enough audience to keep it going. I guess you could say it would be like Assassins, a show which I adore and which should have run longer, it'll have a decent run but it won't run too long.
As for Wicked, I really don't see it being the next Les Mis, ever. But thats just because I think Les Mis was one of the best pieces of theater ever done and I don't think Wicked is like that at all. I think Wicked will last decently and maybe even longer than it should but its ticket sales will inevitably drop off when the next "big thing" comes.

I think Wicked will end up being closer to Thoroughly Modern Millie than Les Miserables.
Hairspray used to be "THE" show in town. You couldn't get tickets. The hype has since died down, although tickets are still a bit difficult to get. This is probably going to happen to Wicked a while after Idina leaves and the next big show moves into town. But I believe it will have a long run nevertheless.

Should - Bombay Dreams, Wonderful Town (Donna Murphy rules but the rest of the leads...nah so much), Sly Fox (wow...sucked SOOO much)
Probably will - Little Shop (was great with Kerry, Douglas, and Hunter, but it ain't selling anymore), Caroline, Fiddler (singing not so great in this show, but the acting was top-notch), Wonderful Town, Bombay Dreams
no need to mention shows that have already said they're leaving.
Wicked is a family-friendly spectacle with a fun story involving characters everyone is familiar with. It'll be around a good long while. Deservedly so.
Avenue Q was the best musical of the year though. But how many puppeteer/actor/singers can there be in the world?

sorry. stupid wifi
I think Plum's comparison to Millie is very good and I'd like to second that.
I thought Sly Fox was cute. It wasn't amazing but I don't mind that being open.
As for Bombay Dreams, I just don't get that show. I saw it, and I enjoyed "Salaam Bombay" and "The Journey Home." I think the book is horrendous but I think that's just because I have no knowledge of Bollywood. It is drawing in the Indian population though so I give it credit for that.
It's also providing Broadway work for talented Indian and East Asian performers, so although the show is horrendous, I'd say, "keep it."
Broadway's not looking too bad right now, but if I have to pick one show from this season to go (besides Wicked), it'd be Wonderful Town. If Broadway in general, I'd pick Millie to go.
Get Caroline or Change OFF BROADWAY NOWWWWWWWWWWW!
I have to say that although I don't think BOMBAY DREAMS works for Broadway...some of the music is GORGEOUS! "CLoser than Ever" Is a very pretty duet. Assasins should NOT be closed right now but George Bush is an evil evil man taking over minds!
Millie should still be running. I wish Boy From Oz wasn't closing. It's time for AIDA to close.
I miss CABARET badly.
I think Anna In The Tropics deserved a much longer run.
I think I would have liked Cabaret a lot more if I didn't see Gina Gershon in it. I couldn't stand her.
Back to the Hairspray mentions a ways back.....I cried like three times in Hairspray - after the "makeover" when Tracy comes out - obviously during "I Know Where I've Been" and then at the end - the energy radiating off the stage was incredible!! I auditioned for it again today (please GOD before I'm old enough to be WILBUR!!)
Ya know, when I first saw Hairspray I was very moved by "You Can't Stop the Beat" because, since the song is about civil movement and liberal progression, I felt like it was subtly but directly pointing to gay rights. I should really ask Marc Shaiman if that was what was intended, because it really hit a chord in me.
2 things:
1.IM BACK!!!!!!!!
2. I think all the shows that survived the season that i read the script for or saw(which is about 10 or so). The weakest show atleast from the script is Frozen. I read it and the first act is so slow moving. The second act I enjoyed and wished the play was more like that. I think that the circle in the square is such a good space that another better play should be there.
I say just cancel SYNCOPATION.

Wow, so much negativity with people looking for shows to close. Where's the love?

"How many actor/singer/puppeteers are there in the world?"
Well, how many guys are there who can play the drums and catch marshmallows in their mouths while wearing blue makeup? Enough to have several companies of Blue Man Group out there.
You hire singer/actors and teach them puppetry.
