Gertrude Lawrence starred in THE KING AND I by Rodgers & Hammerstein, who produced ANNIE GET YOUR GUN starring Ethel Merman!

1. Lawrence and Merman both made their first Broadway musical appearances in works by Gershwin. (Girl Crazy and Oh Kay)

2. Lawrence and Merman both had shows written for them by Cole Porter: (Nymph Errante and Anything Goes, Red Hot and Blue, Dubarry Was A Lady, Panama Hattie and Something For The Boys.)

3. Lawrence and Merman both appeared in shows with choreography by Jerome Robbins. (The King and I and Call Me Madam, Gypsy.)

4. Each appeared at the Alvin and Imperial Theatres during their careers.

5. Both appeared on Broadway during the seasons:

1930-1931
1936-1937
1938-1939
1940-1941
1945-1946
1950-1951

Kudos to you all. It was too easy.

The connection I focused one which no one else has mentioned is that both shared Victor Moore as a co-star.

OH, KAY - Lawrence and Moore, 1926
ANYTHING GOES - Merman and Moore, 1934.
