Posted: 8/12/04 at 11:12pmDoes your school chorus have a song they perform every year at a concert as a tradition, particularly a Broadway song? Or what are some Broadway songs your chorus has song? The one at my school sings "Seasons of Love" from Rent every year.

Posted: 8/12/04 at 11:15pmFreshman year my freshman choir sang that (Seasons of Love- and i had a solo in it) in our final concert of the year because we do modern songs and broadway songs in that concert. we also did a Pippin medley with all the choirs that year. The upperclass choir sang an Aida medley. And i don't remember what we did sophomore year. and this year we did more rock style songs, like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. Updated On: 8/12/04 at 11:15 PM

Posted: 8/12/04 at 11:20pmMy senior year of high school, I was in the main show choir. We did a thirty-minute long Ragtime medley complete with musical staging, narrative, and costumes. Then at graduation we sang Seasons of Love. I was the male soloist and had the pleasure of cracking the high note ("the way that she diiieeeeeed!") badly in front of my graduating class and their families.

Posted: 8/12/04 at 11:22pma horrible grating girl sings the music of the night wrong every year(note: do not try to riff at any point in that song especially if you are white)- she went to weekend classes a julliard so she got leads from when she was a freshmen just because of this

At my 6th grade choir concert (yes, awhile ago), we did a whole salute to broadway. I remember we sang Annie, fiddler on the Roof, and some other shows...i think there was one song from Kiss Me Kate too. I was the Fiddler...but it was funny because i play the viola. IT was great too because i had to pretend i was playing...and i did fake everyone out. They ALL thought i was really playing but actually it was the recording.

Hmm. Let me think back.
At my graduation we did "Seasons of Love" and "This is the Moment". I recall doing a Les Mis medley... We did some other Jekyll & Hyde songs. Once Upon A Dream...and I remember another group doing some Phantom my freshman year. I think there is more but I honestly cant remember that much of high school anymore (though I consider that a blessing).

We have a Broadway Cabaret every year that you have to audition for, and it's just like a broadway revue. It's a lot of fun and we do lots of songs from less popular shows (ie not just Phantom or Les Mis over and over) so it's a good mix of songs. One of my favorite times of the year!
About Seasons of Love, when I was in middle school they used to sing that every year at the last choir concert and the "alumni" would come on stage and sing too. That was nice...I guess practically every school sings it since it's one of the only RENT songs that can be done in school!

Posted: 8/13/04 at 1:02amWe have a coffee-house type of thing in our drama department every year, where people generally perform stuff from Guys and Dolls, TMM, and les mis.

Posted: 8/13/04 at 2:10amwe did a les mis medly as well. That is actually what originally sparked my interest in musical theatre i fell in love with the lyrics to On my own.

Last year my school chorus sang "You Can't Stop the Beat". It was actually a lot of fun to sing for chorous, but we always sing the Hallelujah Chorus every year around Christmas time :)

Our Freshman girls sang "Soon It's Gonna Rain", last year. I think one year the Mixed Choir did a Les MisMedley. Every year our school does a Bway Revue, too. The teacher (who majored in musical theatre-so he knows his stuff) groups the kids and puts them in songs he sees fit. He's very good at it, for the most part.

We have done a choral arrangement of the song:
"Seasons of Love" from RENT
And we have also preformed one of my all time favorite songs from one of my all time favorite shows for the Graduation ceremony:
"Corner of the Sky" From PIPPIN

Posted: 8/13/04 at 4:24pmYears ago we did a cheezy choral arrangement of RHYTHM OF LIFE from Sweet Charity. The lyric "rhythm in the bedroom" had been changed to "rhythm on the inside".
