I've never been to New York and I am spending a day there this weekend. What should I do? Not even necessarily shows, but just stuff to see/do. Also, I am spending a weekend up there soon to see shows. Suggestions?

Walk around and just see all of the tourist attractions. Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, etc. Go to the Hershey and M&M store. See In The Heights or Sunday in the Park with George. Have an amazing weekend!

As a b-way virgin, unless you know that you'll enjoy Sunday in the Park, I would stick with something else. It's not your stereotypical B-way experience.
While I'd lean toward headier, more intellectual pieces for a person who has been here before, I think that spectacle is a better as an inaugural experience. People may disagree.

I'd say In the Heights, or Lion King...or something like that.
Unless you love Sondeheim...then see SITPWG. As I've said before, the visuals are worth the price of the ticket.

You might also consider going to the Top of the Rock. You'd get to see an amazing view of the city, depending on the weather.
