I remember reading in the gossip columns back in the late 70's or early 80's that Claudine Longet had been offered a huge amount to play Roxie either on tour or in Vegas but for some reason, she wouldn't consider it.
(For the youngsters, Longet had been a star Las Vegas showgirl and singer and was the ex-wife of Andy Williams. She "accidentally" shot and killed her boyfriend, superstar Olympic skier Spider Sabich. Arrested and tried for murder, the jury found her guilty only of misdemeanor negligent homicide and she served just 30 days. Williams accompanied her to court every day and it was *the* murder trial of the late 70's, on the evening news and the cover of every magazine for months. The general feeling was that she had gotten away with murder because the police had completely bungled the handling of the evidence. The autopsy and coroner's report made it clear that her version of what had happened was a lie.)
