I am serious. Up until that moment, I don't believe them, as the "love" between them came so sudden, as do most love scenes in so many musicals. Take Wonderful Town for instance. One moment, he likes the younger sister, then sings a song, and all of a sudden, likes what's-er-face.
Very rare do we see real moments...let's see...
There's Man of La Mancha...but he doesn't love her, he just respects her.
Carousel...that's about as real as it gets...if you're a battered wife...
Aida...now that is love that stands the test of time...
Once On This Island...but she loved him before she knew him. Why did she love him? Because he drove a car?
Let's just say, the best love story was in Ragtime between Tateh and Mother...So hidden, yet, so real. She waited a year, therefore, it wasn't rushed like everything else in musical's.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive.
"Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot."
"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.
