Broadway's Roundabout Theatre Company

Broadway's Roundabout Theatre Company

OK so they were happy enough to take our productions of 'Sunday In The Park With George' and 'The 39 Steps' and throw them onto the big wide Broadway stage
SO.....
....can we now, PLEASE, have their production of 'Pal Joey' once their done with it sometime next year!
Complete with Ms Stockard Channing of course!

I'd be down with that.

I'm still waiting on the Chocolate Factory to put up Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, as they had some deal with the producers on the 2006 Off-Broadway edition.

Have Roundabout production ever transfered to the West End? Personally, I would love to see Pal Joey as I have never seen it especially with Stockard Channing and Christian Hoff in the cast.

No.
Its funny that we send them loads of productions from the National Theatre,Donmar and RSC etc but we never get sent anything from Lincoln Centre or Roundabout!
Mmmm? I've never thought about that before Jonwo!

Perhaps it's not comercially viable to send over productions from the US not for profit productions as most Donmar, National, Royal Court, Menier etc are brought over via US or British producers.

Maybe they should do what The Old Vic is doing with The Bridge Project and link up say Roundabout with The National for a year and have productions going back and forth. I would love to see LCT production of South Pacific come here but I can't see a company like The National putting it on under Nicholas Hynter.

The National did 'South Pacific' about 6 or 7 years ago. They also sent their huge production of 'Oklahoma!' to New York.

Jonwo is right, that the non profit shows in London are bought over to America via an indipendent producer.

I don't think it is commercially vialbe for a show to go to to London via its American non profit theatre. Keep in mind that on Broadway if a non profit show transfers to a commercial run it is because a Broadway producer wishes to do so. Yes, 39 steps is still playing on Broadway but it is no longer produced by Roundabout. Once it left The American Airlines theatre and moved to the cort it had a different producer.
