I just don't understand what anyone can gain from making a fake account of a real person. Isn't the point of those sites to network? Who wants to network with imposters?
I wasn't insinuating all of them are fake. I'm just saying, don't necessarily assume they're the real deal. I ended up finding the same said friend on myspace a while ago and it turned out to actually be her, but the one on friendster is so obviously fake it's ridiculous.
On the same token, someone friended me through Friendster and I didn't friend him back for a while thinking it was a poser. Turned out to actually be the man himself.
Funny little sites those things are. You never know who you're truly dealing with.

Exactly, IllegallyBlondeish, you never know who you're truly dealing with...
(and if that's not a winky face, then I am living up to my reputation as being completely computer illiterate)

I'm sure you already know this, but just in case: ALL of the Sweeney Todd castmembers' (Manoel, Lauren and Benjamin) My Space pages are the real deal. That's a 100% certainty.
However, any and all Stephen Sondheim pages...fake. But who doesn't love a fake Sondheim?

With stuff like this, it's often kind of obvious who the posers are. I mean, take a look at some of the fake Anthony Rapp MySpace accounts. It's impossible to think for more than a moment that they MIGHT even be real, if you know anything whatsoever about him. And even if you don't know that much about him, there are things that are definite dead give-aways that they're fake, in a good number of cases.
And there are certainly ways to verify that some are the real deal.

Posted: 3/15/06 at 12:28amAnthony Rapp's is myspace.com/anthonyrapp my friend asked him at the book signing we went to and he confirmed it.

I'm well aware all the Sweeney cast members are the real deal.
And yes, LilAssassin. You never truly know.

........ except when you do.
This can definitely be played off as an internet-wide thing about never knowing exactly who's behind the other screen, but it's not the same when like I said before, there are often ways to verify.
Case in point, if we know the Sweeney cast members' pages are real, then how do you say with certainty that you "never" truly know?
Contorted, no?

Posted: 3/15/06 at 12:44amNever is maybe a bit strong, but you must remember... these boards and myspace in general are good ways for performers to get some sort of anonymous responses regarding their performances and what not... just putting that out there...

Well, yeah...But when you see them in real life and they talk to you about My Space (or in the case of a friend of mine, who was actually recognized by Lauren Molina) then, yeah, you CAN be sure sometimes.
I get what you mean, but there really are instances when you can be 100% sure it's the real thing.
And BSoBW3, you made me spit out my tea. Ok, not really, but your comment DID make me laugh.
