#1Broadwayunderstudies.com question

Alright, I'm looking forward to my trip April 5-7 to NYC> So far (yay) no understudies for my date have been posted. I have a question- are people who get sick last minute get posted there? Like a day before the show, or do they not get posted at all?

Thanks.

The only things that get posted on BroadwayUnderstudies.com are what the understudies themselves tell the site - it's very rarely last minute, and never a complete list.

Also, your "yay" kind of is depressing to me. That's not what the site's about.

Well, I know it's not what the site's about. Most of the people I want see I want them to be there, but I would like to see a Maureen understudy and an Emmett understudy. So my yay was about the other shows I'm seeing.

Sorry that I depressed you with my "yay" shesamarshmallow!

The site may not be about that, but the people who want to see understudies are generally a minority. And, by the same token, if I was going to go see a show for a specific person, and then knew ahead of time they would be out, I'd save my money for something else. So while the original intent of the site is for the understudy obsessed, it does serve a dual purpose that you just have to respect and understand.

suicidalmickeymouse:

When it comes to Legally Blonde understudies, there's an entire thread that is usually bumped or updated when understudies go on. And from what I recall, Christian took his vacation already and unless he has a personal day or is ill or experiences an emergency of some kind, he will most likely be in the show the day you go.

But I could be wrong, I'd keep your eye on that Legally Blonde understudy thread: Their amazing people. :]

I understand the specific person thing - I flew to New York to see Aaron Lazar in Les Miz and was crushed to see that he was out. Then, of course, I saw Drew Sarich, who was then an u/s for the two leads, went on to play of of them full time, and is now doing so in London. That's the great thing about understudies. You never know where they'll be in a few years. People disappointed about not seeing Kendra Kassebaum in Wicked could have caught Alli Mauzey, currently stealing the show in Cry-Baby. If you saw Curtis Holbrook as Sonny in Xanadu or Van Hughes as Link in Hairspray, you'd have seen two of the leads of the upcoming Saved at Playwright's Horizons.

Also, alot of people go nuts for certain understudies and camp out and post random YouTube videos about sleeping outside the theaters.
:cough: Haven as Elle :cough:

But I've gone to shows just to see understudies before. I got to see Noah Weisberg as Emmett and I only went knowing that Christian was out and I'd get to see him in the role. I also was glad to see many other understudies over the past, I got to see Kasey Marino do an amazing job as Corny Collins & Andrew Rannells do a fantastic job as Link Larkin in Hairspray, Julie Reiber do a wonderful job as Natalie/Ed in All Shook Up, Matt Doyle do an amazing job as Melchior in Spring Awakening and many more. So, you never know, that understudy could be really amazing. Or the next big thing: Cheyenne Jackson, Sutton Foster, etc all were understudies at one point

The understudies site is invaluable and serves a dual purpose. There are times I check that site to see when to go to see show (Haven Burton as Elle Woods, Lisa Brescia as Elphaba), and times when I have not seen a show because of information posted there. I don't see any problem with that.

As to the original question, they only post what they receive directly from the performers, so the list is never complete. Certain shows never seem to send information over there, others do it routinely. It depends on the actors.

And then there are people who likely won't go to a show for a repeat viewing if the cast is the same as last time they saw it. Like...ME. re: Broadwayunderstudies.com question
