They put the posters on the wrong side of the can.

I do see your point. Thanks for at least listening to me. I don't expect everyone to agree or "fluff" their opinion, I would just ask that people think about the person who is behind the show before you make comments that may be hurtful...or not?

Broadway needs all of the unconditional support it can get. You know what they say.....divide and conquer

I think alot of people are afraid that shows like "Brooklyn" are the "new broadway." Broadway has defiently had clunkers this year so far.

and I couldn't disagree more with you on that point, Zebra. Broadway needs our "unconditional support" as much as Hollywood does. Because let's face it they're becoming one in the same. The second that we start accepting mediocre productions such as BKLYN and allowing them to be the norm is when Broadway will officially die. We MUST hold writers and producers and actors and everyone involved in the process to a higher standard because they expect US to pay an absolute fortune to see their product. I will not pay $100 dollars to simply be bored. I want to be challenged. I want to walk out of that theatre and have what I just saw burned into my brain for the next week and try to figure out the nuances of each character I saw on that stage. I want to see a musical that's pure fun and light but at the same time doesn't talk down to me and make me wish I would have stayed in for another Law & Order repeat on TNT.

Yo, if everything was good and everything was a hit, nothing would ever close and we'd have the same 30 shows on Broadway for the rest of time. If I root for BROOKLYN to run forever, then nothing else will ever run there. Remember, TABOO had to be terrible and flop for any of those BROOKLYN folk to ever make a home there. It's all cyclical. So don't talk about how they're attached to the show and no one should wish them ill will. They're closing is necessary for the future of Broadway.

That said... you can call it "bashing" if you want, but all it is someone's negative opinion towards a show. Yo, I'm sure there are TV shows you don't like or movies you don't like or songs you don't like. Have you ever had a negative opinion about something? Do you ever share it? And if you don't... is that your point? That no one should ever be honest unless it's positive? What kind of country do we live in again?

Besides...why lower your standards. If it's crap, why can't we say it's crap? Political Correctness helps noone.

"...think about who's behind the show??" You gotta be kiddin' me! Some homeless guy with no talent whatsoever was lucky enough to have been panhandling at the right place and the right time! Send him back to the street corner where he belongs!
The fact that this show made it to Broadway just proves how illiterate, vapid, undiscerning, cynical, stupid and/or out of touch with their audience the people involved with this production truly are and is just another example of the dumbing-down of culture. Updated On: 12/8/04 at 01:01 AM

oh please.

Just because it's on Broadway we all have to gather around and hold hands and say how fabulous this piece of crap is?

Crap is crap. Junk is junk. Just because you dress it up in a trash bag doesn't make it any more special.

Broadway is not a charity case. It is a business. Quality will survive. Trash gets thrown out. Do you still love all your N'Sync records? What..you don't! How can you not support music then!!

Zebra...if the "naysayers" are folks on this board whose opinions I have come to respect over a year+ of "lurking" on this board (before recently deciding to post), then what their "naysaying" accomplishes (for me anyway) is that I don't waste thousands of dollars on a trip to New York to see something I thought would be wonderful (which has, instead, turned out to be "crap", i.e. Dracula). Instead I make educated choices based on their opinions, reviews by critics and whatnot to make my theatre trips well worth the expenditure.

Greg, there will be some who say that it is sad that you have to rely on others opinions to make your decisions... not me... i feel the same way you do... i won't see Brokelyn because too many well-trusted and well-respected theater-going friends have told me that it is bad... i have yet to have someone i know and respect and trust tell me that it's good...

Joey Joe...yes, there will be those who would say that, but as an example to them I would tell them how there were so many differing opinions on "Wicked" that I did go see it to form my own opinion. However, when most every person on this board whose opinion I take very seriously (not to start typing a whole list...but members like Margo who make very concise, thoughtful posts), along with reviewers and my own friends in the NYC theatre community trash a show, I tend to take a "wait and see" attitude. For instance, I might see "Brooklyn" if I was already in NY and had an available evening (or afternoon) and it was at TKTS, but I'm not shelling out 100 bucks in advance and planning a trip to see it based on everything I have read and heard about it. I call that spending one's money wisely.
