Posted: 12/1/04 at 11:26amWhat's the recent (but probably not really all that new) trend of recording live versions instead of studio versions? What do people think of this? I'm big on this for comedies (I like the "laugh track"), but for a show like Brooklyn, why? (besides it being cheaper) Updated On: 12/1/04 at 11:26 AM

Posted: 12/1/04 at 11:29amThe article said it was recorded in front of an invited audience. They may edit out the applause. I kinda like the idea that they are doing it live.

The article advertising the cast recording begins with a quote by Brantley
"Imagine 'Hair', or 'Godspell,' throw in a helping of Motown and filter the whole thing through the pyrotechnics of American Idol." - Ben Brantley, New York Times
This is not a kind quote. Did they think it was? Also, i just love how hoots and hollars will be added in "making the listener feel as if they are in the front row"....of a half-filled house. Alright, BKLYN fans----attack.

Meh, I won't be getting mine until after Christmas, so either way...
I can understand a live recording for some shows that need the reactions (Cabaret comes to mind, I liked the "audience" sounds in that one), but Brooklyn doesn't strike me as needing it. But, whatever lol

Posted: 12/1/04 at 3:19pmI was there. It was really cool they just had like a whole group of us sitting down in chairs with the whole band. There was a tiny stage and they all head mics and headphones and chairs and they sang. Apparantly, they did the live audience three times and also had studio time without anyone so they picked the best vocal performances. I think it was good because it gave a really good energy and it was cool cuz I took off my headphones sometimes and just listened to them singing and it sounded acapella because the band was all filtered too the head phones because they were all in sound proof rooms.

Posted: 12/1/04 at 3:40pmI think it's a great idea, that way those of us who won't have a chance to see it live will have PROOF that the audience goes crazy and screams in the middle of every number and stomps their feet with each screamed note and sobs at the Viet Nam scene, and stands every...oh wait, we won't be able to see them stand, no wait, we can hear the seats creak as people stand and then sit. I'll bet they didn't oil the seats before the performance. How much was the "invited' audience payed? Gift Bags? Cookies? Cocktails?

I love how it was an invited audience. I guess the reactions from a REAL Broadway audience wasn't good enough!

Posted: 12/1/04 at 4:49pmHey, if they just recorded the music, then it should be amazing. Those are some talented people.
#16re: Brooklyn the musical - live - released Dec 14th
Posted: 12/1/04 at 4:56pmThey had to invite the audience, if they only took people who wanted to be there it would only have 5 people in the audience.

Posted: 12/1/04 at 4:59pmYou guys, c'mon now. The show is not that bad. You make it seem like it is AWFUL! Brooklyn has a lot of fans and you know it. I think some people on this board dislike the show because others do. You don't need to make nasty remarks about decent shows such as Wicked and Brooklyn to "fit in."

Wow, Derric, I'm so glad you got to see the show. When did you go to New York? Or did you see in Denver. I'm really glad you liked it, but I missed the posts with your reviews.

Posted: 12/1/04 at 5:07pmI have not seen either of these shows, but honestly...I doubt a lot of those who think they are the worse musicals to hit Boradway have.

"The show is not that bad."
Well a comment like that implies you HAVE seen it. Maybe you should edit to read "I'm sure the show can't be THAT bad."
Those are the kind of comments that will send you to the shilly side of things.

First of all, do not call me a shill. I support all shows that hit Broadway. They deserve some credit.
Also, excuse me for not being as clear as I should be.
The music that I have heard is not that bad.
