"Brooklyn" Worth It?

My mother and I are currently planning our annual weekend in NYC in December. Since "Caroline, or Change" is closing, we had no idea what to see. So, we decided to go for "Brooklyn."

Truthfully, for those who have seen/heard it, is it good or not? This is a person who only gets to the city about 2-3 times a year and doesn't want to waste time seeing a show that's going to close 2 months after it opens, a la "Taboo."

Input, anyone?

Also, we've seen "Wicked." Just incase anyone was thinking of suggesting. We saw it, and loved it.

Eden is attached to Brooklyn. That should tell you all that you need to know. In other words, GO SEE IT!

Eden is the only reason I'm interested in seeing it. So no need to worry. I'm spreadin' Eden Love.

i am so excited to see this show and i love eden!(saw her in wicked)but is Brooklyn close to the plot of Rent in a way. What is the plot of this play? In short form please.

It is about a French chanteuse who comes to America to discover her roots. She ends up in the city that bears her name.

Im excited about this show. I have heard a few clips of Eden singing and love her voice. I also hear the music in this show is very good.

Its such an original story and music, saw it in Denver, can't wait to see it here, have 9/23 tixs and will get more to see the evolution.. Anyone going to Bryant park, this Thursday?

Well, I wasn't sure whether I was going to see this or not, but they just totally sold me by hiring the great Cleavant Derricks (who won a Tony as the original Jimmy Early in "Dreamgirls") to play Street Singer. I haven't seen him on stage since Fosse's last show "Big Deal" back in the 80's (this will be Derricks' return to Broadway after 18 years) so I can't wait to see (and hear) him again. He's an incredible actor/singer/dancer (someone who should have come up a few times in those "Best Triple Threat" threads).

Brooklyn is Brooklyn, not Rent. They are not the same. Rent rocks, Brooklyn probably will, other than that, they are different.

RENT had NO story -so how can you ask if it's the same as BKLYN...? In any event - it's NOT!

I'm terribly sorry to hear that you are deaf, blind and entirely apathetic to the human race. Or maybe you're just among the group of people that need obvious plots thrust into their faces in order to get it.

their are lot's of other good musicals too, if your mom wants to see something traditional or big and flashy, but still amazing with great music. how about phantom of the opera or hairspray?

Brooklyn's music rocks! I saw it 3 times in Denver. Flying in to see it in October. Just dying to see what they do with the set. The costumes are QUITE interesting to say the least. Very inventive. See it.

I think mom and I are definitely sold on seeing "BKLYN." I think we may try the Wicked lotto a night as well. We've seen it already, but I'd like to see Idina once more before she leaves.

James Thunder Early's Back!!! Margo I love you for letting me know! Dreamgirls is one of my favorite shows EVER! I grew up on that album.

OMG...If I could only see one more Broadway show in my lifetime, it'd be BKLYN, hands down. Please go see it! I took several different friends (some who had NEVER seen a Broadway musical, and some who have seen lots) while it was in Denver last summer and every single one of them was completely blown away. Two of them were literally speechless after seeing it. I too had to simply sit in my seat and reflect on the talent in this show long after the last note was sung.

And also...there is only one thing that Rent and BKLYN have in common and that is the setting in which they take place. As The Denver Post said once BKLYN opened here..."Brooklyn delivers what Rent only promised."

WOW! After hearing that song on the website I am completely and absolutely SOLD! This is exciting. I'm excited for an upcoming Broadway show now. I was starting to get depressed because there was nothing I really was looking forward to seeing. But this is great. Hoooray. Hope!

It is definately worth it, and as everyone seems to have picked up on, yes, go spread Eden love. There is no way Brooklyn will only hang around for 2 months like Taboo; this show is too good to go out like that, or go out at all, for that matter. It's unbelievable.
You know it and you want it... you just can't believe you've got it.

WOW- I already had tickets for 9/23 but after hearing that I am DOUBLY excited to go - especially since I have 5th row center!
