I've just stumbled upon the wonder that is this man. The second I heard his voice I got chills. Oh, gosh..I didn't realize there were more folks who have that voice quality I love so much. Anyone know what else he's done, other than Songs for a New World?
He was Mr Goldstone, along with a few other roles in the Bernadette revival of Gypsy

He was just at "Political Follies" at Symphony Space.
FYI - He's also HYSTERICAL. He had a really comedic song and blew me away. So he's not only an amazing sing, but he's funny, too.
And I think he was in Gypsy. In fact he DEFINITELY was. I remember looking at the playbill and going BROOKS ASHMANSKAS?!?!!
EDIT: Oops, you beat me to it.

he was also in the Producers, How to succeed...., in addition to Gypsy most recently. Off the top of my head thats all i can remember.
Also his performance at Gypsy of the year htis past season as the Emcee in the Sam Medes Gypsy/cabaret spoof was quite funny. He bared butt, not quite alan cumming butt, but butt!

LOL! What? I'm sorta confused after that last post! An interpretation of the Emcee??? Wow, sorry I missed that!
Damn it! I saw him in Gypsy and didn't even know it.

He is currently playing Carmen Ghia in The Producers. I saw him a couple of weeks ago. It was a big surprise to see his name in the playbill, because for some strange reason I didn't think he had done much. His Carmen Ghia was hilarious.

He's been around awhile. He was also in LITTLE ME and DREAM.
For future reference, www.ibdb.com is an amazing website to check out for info about a Broadway performer. I also just discovered that they have a cross reference system for EACH THEATER so you can find out, IN ORDER, every show that has played at a particular theater.

And oh yea, Brooks is extremely talented. Great voice and very very funny. His being cast in THE PRODUCERS was a long time coming.
can someone tell me why neither this man or Ty Taylor gets as much work as those voices deserve? their vocals in SFANW are hard to top. are they bad actors or something?

No, "Gypsy of the year" Its a BCEFA event
The cast of gypsy did a spoof on how gyspy and cabaret were both directed by mendes and looked kind of the same in style. He was actually dressed as the Emcee, it has nothing to do with his performance in gypsy the show itseld, just the BCEFA event where he played it.
Does that make more sense, i hope so!

Right, yes...of course! Thanks!
Eh, I found Brooks Ashmankas to have too much of that nasal, brassy chorus boy sound for my taste, but then again, a lot of people like that kind of voice...

OMG Ty Taylor. Don't even get me started.
That last "I'm the king of the world". SO good.

I saw him go on as Leo Bloom in The Producers a couple of weeks ago...he was simply hysterical. (And of course, a much better singer than Matthew Broderick!) It was nice to see him in such a big role, I always found his comic bits in Gypsy very entertaining.
