Heard through a fairly reliable grapevine that Ashley Brown is departing the Mary Poppins company in late April. Was she dismissed from the production? Is she leaving on her own accord? Any truth to this fairly surprising rumor? Last I heard, she was contracted through October.

*prays that she stays* I have seen her in Mary Poppins and there is no reason to dismiss her
She said last week that she was contracted through mid-October but would "hopefully be staying well beyond that."
Maybe she resigned through late April 2008? Boy, that's a commitment.

My source told me April, 2007, but I had also heard, like many of you, that she's there until October of this year.

Oh I liked her too, but I think she should be careful not to get stuck in the Disney machine. They will ruin her.

Really. She is a real talent and can play young ingenue parts with her operatic and belt voices. There are many parts she would be good in. I hope she can be rid of Disney and be in a better show than Poopins, which was OK.
I thought she was awful.
Although, some like her, so I hope she stays to satisfy those who think she's good.
Oh poo. I was really looking forward to seeing her, either in June or November... But, yes, I hope she escapes the aforementioned "Disney Machine". I'd also love to see Ms. Brown in a different house not run by The Mouse...
GAH its hard to decide which i'd prefer... whatever is the better opportunity for Ashley is what she should pursue.

While she has a lovely legit soprano please don't confuse that with operatic training. She doesn't sound operatic. That takes years and years of training.

Brown has told me personally that Disney takes care of her and treats her like royalty, even picking her up monthly cell phone bill and assisting with her apartment rent ON TOP OF a hearty pay check, and she would work with them for as long as they would have her. Though I do agree with the statement that she could play MANY MANY Parts, if you can get Disney to fall in love with you, you are set for the rest of your career.
3 ridiculously impossible reasons for her (alleged) departure:
PERHAPS she was offered the role of Janet in Drowsy after Sutton leaves!
-or-
PERHAPS she can play a flute like nobody's business and has been cast as Johanna in the Sweeney tour!
-or-
PERHAPS she has been offered the standby position for Sherie Rene Scott in Little Mermaid!
Disclaimer: All of these are false.
Jazzysuite82, she played Cunegonde in Candide at CCM and apparently delievered one hell of a "Glitter and Be Gay," so I'd imagine her top range is more than just your average pretty soprano.
DISNEY; hearty pay check, that one made me laugh.

Her face is the advertising, of course they're giving her more than they give their other slaves.
Whether it's $1,000 or $0.10 more is none of our business.

True. I doubt it's a bad job, and you're a role model for tons of little girls everday, I doubt it's a bad gig.
An actor who used to live on our floor used to do voiceovers & singing for Disney
He said the upfront pay was lousy but where you made it was residuals

The big D is notorious for underpaying their casts. Quite sad, since they obviously can afford it. If Ashley's getting a good chunk of change, they obviously see something in her.
I predicted from the moment I first heard her sing that she'd be in Mary Poppins.
Awww, I hope not...I'm seeing it mid-May and was hoping to see her in the role.

As I said, I can't imagine her leaving on her own accord or them dumping her.

I loved working for the Mouse. They treated us like royalty, paid us well and I made some of my best friends within my Disney casts.
I hate to hear that others had disappointing Disney experiences.
PERHAPS she has been offered the standby position for Sherie Rene Scott in Little Mermaid!
She's also said in numerous interviews that she will not be doing LITTLE MERMAID. Why on earth would she leave an amazing starring role to standby for Sherie and obviously get paid less and get less exposure?
She can ride the POPPINS train for a lot longer.
