I disagree, Bobby. I wouldn't wanna see Brown bland her way through Sarah Brown or Lawrence pretend-belt like she did in DAMN YANKEES through songs like "Take Back Your Mink" or the ending of "Adelaide's Lament." I'm not too hot on Beach either, he's a poor man's Nathan Lane, IMO.
Panaro is the only one of the bunch that I'd love to see tackle the score. I wouldn't mind seeing him star in the revival.

Excellent casting choices.
And not one of them would even cross the minds of the casting directors for the NY revival.

I thought Brown's final performance in Mary Poppins was October 12?
Anyone know when she's leaving now? I'd like to try and go to her last performance.

Ooh Ray, gotta disagree. Brown is not all that bland and I think she would be a very fresh welcome to Sarah Brown. And I don't think Adelaide's songs require the belting that Gloria has in Damn Yankees. And if there is anything Megan Lawrence can do, it is sell a comedic song. She literally had me falling off my seat during "Hernando's Hideaway." I do agree with you, somewhat, on Beach. I just think he reads to old for the role. Panaro is obviously a good choice.
AND add to the mix Joe Cassidy singing "Sit down..." well that is one hell of a cast!

I do think Joe Cassidy as Nicely-Nicely Johnson is a great choice. I'd buy him and Panaro in the Broadway revival.
I thought Brown had a fantastic voice when I saw her in ON THE RECORD (she made the show bearable, there was no substantial dialogue in that though), but everything I have seen/heard from her in MARY POPPINS just makes me think of the words bland, wooden, and boring. I hope someone like Laura Benanti, the proposed Anne Hathaway, or even little-known Erin Davie gets cast in the role on Broadway.
Lawrence was SUCH a disappointment in DAMN YANKEES (not only her feeble attempt to sing "Shoeless Joe" but her overall take on Gloria) that I for one hope she isn't on the NY casting agent's short list for the revival.

Posted: 8/29/08 at 5:35pmCould anyone see Ana Gasteyer playing Adelaide? She's the perfect age, very funny, and a pretty great belter.

Vincent Pastore is PERFECT for Big Jule.
In other news- I would pay to see this cast- but not on Broadway.
