Bryan Cranston's Beard?

Any insight why his Sardi's caricature would have a beard when his character in All The Way doesn't, and no role I can remember him from did either? Was there some early stage performance where he was famously bearded?
If not, seems an odd artistic license...

I did include that when I was originally writing the post, but figured I'd let someone else have that fun.

Posted: 5/30/14 at 11:50amThe Sardi's pictures have become pathetic in recent years, but you are right. I does not look even remotely like him! Can't the star get a chance to decline a particular picture, or request a re-do? The man deserves better.

It looks like Cranston at the 2012 Golden Globes.

Posted: 5/30/14 at 12:35pmIt's gotta suck for the actor to stand there and pretend that these awful "portraits" look anything like them, or for that matter, good.

Posted: 5/30/14 at 12:35pmCranston looks more like Marty Stouffer in the illustration.

Posted: 5/30/14 at 12:39pmtrpguyy's pic does seem to be the source, but why use a source that isn't how he looked in any of his major roles or, more importantly, the one in which he is performing on Broadway? Despite that he may have let his beard grow out between filming Breaking Bad seasons before they hacked it down to a goatee...

LOL

Posted: 5/30/14 at 1:02pmThis artist has been getting work there for years. WHY. None of the drawings are caricatures, beyond just being poor drawings. None of them highlight or exaggerate what makes a face unique. I'd never know who a one of them was supposed to be if there weren't a picture of a celebrity with a kill-me grin standing there.

Posted: 5/30/14 at 3:51pmjonart - nice work. Hint, though - look at the angle he holds his head, and the fact that his smile is not symmetrical. Those factors make me distinguish Cranston from other similar handsome guys his age!

If Sardi's had used jonart's, I wouldn't have started this thread.
Is there a reason/time when Sardi's stopped purposefully commissioning caricatures? Seems more fun.

Oh man. I always thought these drawings were sacred to everyone and was so scared to say that recently they have been really REALLY lacking. But I can't say anything because I probably couldn't do any better.
Jonart- love yours!

Posted: 5/30/14 at 6:19pmI first noticed it with Raul Esparza's picture in 2007. There is a tendency to eliminate the very characteristics that make faces interesting - almost like a PC version of the human face. I loved the old versions - lots of character and lots of humor.

inspired by the compliments, and the other photo on this thread i decided to give Norm Lewis a shot. It seems the "caricature" part of Sardi's Caricature has been gone for a long time.
