How is this musical? Worth seeing? Any impressions from dress?

Took the plunge and saw it tonight. The score is quite fun and varied so it moves along the rather thin plot, but it's message is strong. Nikki M James is fantastic and everyone else in the cast is great as well.
Wasn't expecting the musical to be this good given the limited run. Definitely go see it tomorrow. They're allowing the P2P code to work on any seat in the theater so if you have that you can grab a great seat. Run time is 2:10.

The show was in good shape with an appealing lead and a versatile ensemble. The sound however was a nightmare. Whenever more than one person sang it was next to impossible to understand the lyrics which made for a frustrating evening and when the big Granny number came in the 2nd Act it was a total let down given the sound issues. Maybe someone on this board who is educated in sound design can shed some light on why the sound marred what appeared to be an amiable production. Perhaps the process is so intricate that it needs a week of tech rehearsals but I have never quite understood how some productions at City Center are easy to hear and understand while others are not. I did think the show had a nice look to it and it was staged sparingly with a certain degree of flair which did not go unnoticed. A special shout out to Josh Davis who I thought was awesome and there is no reason that Nikki James who has an inherent charisma should not have a solid film career.

I saw this last night. I think this show could be much improved without an act break and some trimming in act 1. I found act 1 very frustrating and ambling along with a paper thin plot and many scenes that convey the same point as the scene before them. There was also very funny mishap involving a doll and a leg that fell off!!!
I don't love the score as much as others here. I loved skating and many songs in act 2 (Kenita Miller's Granny song is AMAZING) but lots in act 1 I felt like I was always reaching for more of a melody.
Act 2 is mostly great, and I thought Nikki really shined. She is the reason to see this and thought she showed off her comedic skills here even more than Book of Mormon.
I as considering leaving after Act 1, but have to say it was very much glad I stayed for Act 2. It's definitely worth seeing and I feel especially for the set they built it should have run through the weekend. I hope Nikki M James has many more leading parts in her future.

I saw a pic of Nikki M. James in a very short, afro wig. I was wondering if anyone knew what scenes/songs she wore the wig for.

Thanks for mentioning the sound SmoothLover. I just finished writing a review on another website and I mentioned the sound/lack of volume and clarity. I truly wasn't sure if it was because of where I was sitting or not but I struggled and had to strain to hear the singers. Especially the first couple of numbers, it was like Ms. James' mic was almost at zero! Now I know the answer. As a result of that, the show started on a negative note for me. But it got better as the show progressed. I definitely agree that Nikki M. James rocked it out and was perfect for the role! My two favorite songs were "The Skate" and "Come With Me." Hopefully the sound at "Really Rosie" will be better.
