How did they stage the final scene?? I had tickets for the first night of previews and am crushed I won't see it. Can anyone who saw it November-January tell me about the boat scene?

I....... don't actually remember that specifically, but minimally like most of the show while downtown. Not to spoil, but the end focused a lot more on Brendan and the whole cast coming together. The boat scene, and earlier scene when Connor goes in the water, were done with sound and lights maybe?
I'm eagerly waiting to see it again and how it'll be on a big stage, I can't really imagine it changing much, at least hoping not.
*SPOILER* I saw it in previews downtown, so I don't know if it was changed, but I recall the two of them walking off into the distance hand in hand, while Brendan just watches them go. He remains and sings to the audience.
*spoilers*
You should keep in mind the tone of the ending is at first more
melancholy than it is in the film, mainly because the role of the brother is significantly increased. Conor and Raphina exit through the aisles, while Brendan watches after them. He grabs a guitar and begins his big song, Go Now. About halfway through the mood changes, the company joins in (all on guitars) and sing the end of the song in a big celebration. I see a hundred shows a year and never ever cry, but I lost my ****.
Yes, as the others said, the musical chooses to focus solely on Brandon after Conor and Raphina leave on the boat. So there really is no “boat scene” as it exists in the movie.

Thanks everyone, that makes a lot of sense! I kind of got that impression from the Sing Street: Grounded concert they did the other day- I am glad to hear they didn't try to stage a row boat in the ocean- I hope one day I get to experience the effect in person
This is the show I most look forward to seeing when theatre makes its return! I recently saw the movie, and it sounds like it works well on stage.
