not necessarily in that order.
Papa- While I respect your views you must admit that the MAJORITY of people involved in theatre are liberal.

while I would agree with the statement "the MAJORITY of people involved in theatre are liberal." I would say that the majority of people who SEE theatre, are tourists from all over the country, which primarily voted for Bush. The only reason theatre exsists is to entertain AUDIENCES. Another thing, I have loved many celebrities, ESPECIALY the talented ones. However, when they start sharing their unwanted opinions all over the freakin place, it totaly turns me off to them. Its a shame alot of people dislke actors like Sean Penn, and Susan Surandon (sp?), as tey are VERY talented actors. But when they go and ruin their image with these opinions and **** it gets on my nerves.
Same could be said for Broadway actors/writers. For example, I loved Avenue Q. As soon as they made the "george bush is only for now" my opinion of the show fell down a notch (let it be said now, that its still my favorite thing on broadway currently"...
I know NOBODY is going to agree with this, but i needed to rant, like the rest of yall.

It's funny. We don't mind our celebrities doing telethons for terrorist attacks or tsunamis. We don't mind our celebrities performing for the troops. We don't mind our celebrities performing at patriotic rallies. We don't mind our celebrities doing Public Service Announcements.
But HOW DARE our celebrities speak out in opposition of something! HOW DARE they!!
Because we should like support the President, y'all. Cuz like--he's the President ya know? And we should like support him and believe and do anything he says. And we should like not have any thoughts of our own or speak out.
i'd say it's a plus for the theatrical community as it will afford it a plethora of material and a feeling of intense solidarity. what can i say, it's swearing in day, and i'm as giddy as a schoolgirl!

The idea that actors -- or any group of people -- should shut up about political issues because they're actors is...well, there are a lot of adjectives one could use but UNDEMOCRATIC is probably the best. No one should be denied or discouraged from speaking out because they belong to a demographic, you know, like blacks or gays or women...
I still want to know how Schwarzenegger got elected if so many people -- primarily righties, Republicans -- object to Hollywood celebrities involving themselves in politics. Huh????
And one last thing: Let's throw out a few names of famously lefty celebs: Barbra Streisand, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon, Bruce Springsteen...
Now a few famously righty stars: Schwarzenegger, The Rock, Britney Spears, Pat Sajak...
Has anyone besides me noticed a bit of a discrepancy in the talent pools???!!!!

I find the fact that your opinion of AVENUE Q "fell" after hearing the line "Bush is only for now" rediculous. Theatre is the most political of the arts; all plays are political to some degree. The very foundation of western theatre -- the Greek performance tradition -- is steeped in politics. How can you hate a show that makes a political statement on the side, and still love theatre as an artform? To strip theatre of its politics is to kill it.
theaterguy2--did u support that there was criticism of Chenowith?
Because if you didn't, you may want to rethink your last post.
But if you did, than fine. But the overall point is that it goes both ways AND you can't gripe about hollywood getting into politics when it's the GOPs who have Reagan and The Terminator.
I;m not even gonna click the link.....
get over it...he's president...make the best of it instead of complaining...
Besides, why would you rather have Kerry?
