I know I won't be able to resist a show with this title but one question: Is the Triad theater more a nightclub than a theater? (Is it more a comedy show setup than a theater setup?) I ask because I often go to shows by myself but don't know if I'd feel comfortable (or just stick out like a tourist on Fifth Avenue) if I go alone. Any advice? Thanks!

I believe there's a $10 food/drink minimum for this show in addition to the ticket price, so my guess is it's a nightclub/cabaret setting (a la Joe's Pub or Birdland).

Yeah, that's what I understand - - actually a $12 minimum. But I'm wondering if it's just tables or if there are also some theater seats where they sell drinks. I realize the Triad is a small venue, but I'm thinking of Studio 54 when Cabaret was there. They sold drinks in the theater seats in the mezzanine. Anyway, just wondering if any of you have been there and can say for sure what the layout is.

The Triad is a very small venue. It is set up as a cabaret but you should not feel in any way uncomfortable as one person. The tables are very close together and many only seat 2 people. Once the place fills up even a little bit, you can't really tell who is alone and who is part of a group. I've seen the show twice, it is hysterically funny and I highly recommend it. One waitress handles the entire room and brings you your drinks. They have a full bar.

It's set up cabaret-style. Chairs around small tables. I went alone and felt just a little awkward sipping my drink and reading my paper while couples and groups filed in (it's open seating). As the theatre was not full, I wasn't squeezed in between groups of people who knew each other so that was fine.

As for the show, it was moderately amusing but not the laugh-riot I was hoping for. As far as musical political satire is concerned, Tom Lehrer's 'That Was The Year That Was' remains the gold standard. Perhaps because the reality of George Bush is so horrifying, it's hard to laugh at it. More than once, I felt like crying more than laughing.

Wow, and I was thinking that this belonged on the off-topic board!

Haha- I had no idea there was a show called this! Sweet! And oh so true!

Katurian 2, some people would definitely not think this show is "sweet" and "oh so true". I feel the musical... "If John Kerry was Elected: The Musical of Confusion" would be much more "sweet" and "oh so true!"

It's actually quite funny. One of my residents went while in NYC last month and enjoyed it... but it does have a particular audience. The lefty liberal. Hence, the SF natives love it!

"Bush Is Bad" actually sells a full live soundboard quality audio of the full show in the lobby (sort of like their Off-Broadway Cast Album). I've got a copy and it's swell. I'm particularly a fan of Kate Baldwin, having seen her just a few months ago in the San Francisco 2005 production of "White Christmas"
