<< The show is plenty enjoyable sober. >>

Totally agree !!!

The problem is that there are a number of people that are making it seem like you have to drink yourself into a stupor to enjoy the show, because of the context.

when I saw The Seagull, I was allowed to bring my drink to my seat, but to me, there is a huge difference between that and in-seat service. 1) no-one is forced to take attention away from the show to pass my drink along. 2) I'm limited to 1 drink which limits the chance I'm going to disturb people by needing to go to the restroom during the act(which is pretty much guaranteed by downing 2-3 drinks in 90 minutes) and 3) you can get a buzz (cause sometimes Chekov is a little slow) without getting trashed.

I hope they change it to taking drinks to your seats only because I'm worried about the precedent in a Broadway house. If we had in-seat service at my show, I can only imagine the disaster it would be even when the producers eyes are filled with dollar signs. Already at the Disney shows, I've seen vendors with show merchandise in the aisles in front of the stage before the Act I curtain was all the way down. Just tacky.

Story first people.

<< Five or six complaints really don't compare to tens of thousands of people who didn't complain and enjoyed the show as is.
>>

Jane,

If you think that ONLY 5 or 6 people have complained, you are simply fooling yourself.

Those are just the ones that I have heard of, by being at the show that night, and/or speaking with my wife (who was sitting next to a pregnant woman that had a drink spilled on her) or friends that have attended.

If there were only that many complaints, then why the increased "security" measures that everyone is talking about?

Obviously, because more often than not, the crowd was behaving in a manner more suited for a Strip Club or sports bar than a theatre.

I am sure that Kelli Barrett really appreciated being called "fat" a few weeks ago by some drunken moron.

And you keep saying the same thing... certain shows arent for everybody. Obviously.

The problem (once again) is NOT the show. Its the fact that they serve alcohol DURING THE SHOW.

Most people dont like to be surrounded by drunks during a show that they paid their hard-earned money to see.

Most people wouldnt want to be surrounded by drunks at a show even if they got in for free !!!

"If drinking makes the show "better" it must not be very good."

I'm sorry, but alcohol makes any show better. End of story.

"They will have to card everyone. One drink served to a minor and they have a major issue not usually faced by theater management."

Actually, I've been wondering about this sort of issue. Is it legal to have a minor pass a drink down the row to the person who ordered it? What if they grab it and drink it instead of passing it? I've not seen the show, how do they handle the carding now, is it at the door, or only if you order a drink at your seat?

someone on the first page made a comment about discouraging the family patrons? I just want to drop my two cents that I dont much think this should be a family destination anyway. I have cousins I regularly take to theatre and made sure to point out to their parents that the show features cursing, strippers, etc before offering to take them- I didnt want it to be my decision if they could handle the material.

I have a hard time figuring out the logistics of this move myself, but I dont think theres anything wrong with the idea of continuing to serve alcohol. I highly doubt it will set a precedent- its being used as a mood setter. Too bad the theatre itself couldnt be more of a mood setter like studio 54 was for cabaret and circle was for rocky horror. Id be highly amused if they plastered the walls with concert posters as theyve done with NWS but the ornate molding and historical look of the building might be a little odd to say the least as a background.

If, as many of you think, that people wont wanna get stuff spilled on them for 99 a pop (and they wont because of sippy cups but I digress), it could follow to say that people might want to have a clearer recollection of the event at the higher ticket price as well and thus not drink to the same extent. I see the mezzanine being party central if drinks are served there, much like the blue seats at Madison Square Garden, where the diehards sit far away from the suits with tickets compliments of their job.
