I took advantage of the $10 tickets as part of my Christmas present to my sister. I had no idea Gershon was out until I walked into the lobby and saw the understudy board. Having seen Natalie Hill perform previously I was looking forward to seeing her take on the role.

Since the show is closing in a few weeks and has been reviewed often enough on the board I'm just going to discuss two of the performances.

Natalie Hill made for a great Rosie. The age difference between her and Stamos went absolutely unnoticed from the mezzanine level. Natalie sang the role very well - much better than Gershon. Her acting was on Gershon's level though (I stated in my prior review that I felt Gershon acted the crap out of the role but couldn't sing it). After the show I found out that this was Natalie's first time going on as Rosie. You could not even tell. She had great chemistry with Stamos and didn't miss a single beat. I can't say too much about her dancing since the choreography cut Rosie's dancing to just a few twists and turns. But she executed them well without tripping over her scarf (as Gina did on my previous trip to the show). So, Brava to Natalie Hill on a job well done.

Secondly, I wanted to mention Nolan Funk. In my previous review I recall saying that I couldn't understand how the girls would go so crazy over him. He was totally bland and lacked all charisma. Well, that has changed. Since my first trip the first weekend of October Funk has found his swagger and bad boy cool. This time around I totally understood why they were so drawn to him. He has grown a lot since previews started. He hits his notes better than before and more of the non-physical laughs landed this time around. He doesn't have Marc Kudisch's sex appeal but who knows if he ever will. Besides, Marc was my first Birdie. I may always be biased towards him.

Thanks for the review. I bit the bullet and took advantage of the $10 seats for this Wednesday evening. I hope to enjoy it just a little bit, despite the general opinion on the board :)

I saw the show in November and really enjoyed Nolan Funk as well. When he was singing, he just owned that stage. Honestly Sincerely was my favorite number of the show.
Glad to hear Natalie Hill seemed to do so well. Gina tripped on her scarf during Spanish Rose when I saw it too...

I saw the matinee of this yesterday. I was happy Gina was out. I saw her in Boeing Boeing last year and thought she acted fine but I heard her singing wasn't that good. Natalie was really good. It seemed like there were private jokes going on as John started cracking up at one point. He totally busted out when he tripped over the table. It was a good production. I was sad Matt Doyle was out.

I was still able to get $10 tickets yesterday, but the only perf this week I was able to get (though HipTix on BroadwayOffers.com) was Wednesday evening.

Oddly, when I called Roundabout to get Wishful Drinking tickets (the website was annoying me), the guy on the phone seemed perplexed that I was able to get the HipTix for Birdie through Telecharge. I don't know whether that means if you call Roundabout you get better HipTix seats or what.

rmusic, here is the original thread about it, with all the info:

For those wondering, Gershon is out until December 30, according to Broadway Understudies.

I was sad Matt Doyle was out.

Matt was in for the evening show. Even got to see him walk by while waiting in line to go in.
