It is a dreadful film with one dimensional, forgettable characters. At least it is adequately acted but that counts for nothing in terms of this film's apparent likeness to Rent. As if.
So, YOU saw it as adequately ACTED... but dreadful. Every ONE of you need to make up your minds. It's either good songs or terrible? AWFUL or adequate acting? You know what? I can see it..... and that's all that's really important to me. As a matter of fact, I have two DOZEN friends who LOVE the movie and would LOVE to see it on stage! I admit, it doesn't have the whole Riverdance aspect of The Pirate Queen - and the cast is not on roller skates... but, that's okay. Oh, yeah... CAMP is a TERRIBLE idea for a play. I'd sure as heck HATE to see a play about youths doing multiple plays during a summer at a theatre camp! Actually, I can't think of a worse idea. EXCEPT maybe a tired, old chaperone who sits on stage and plays records.... while a lame old "follies" dream goes through his head. Don't mean to pick on that particular one.... but there are plenty that look just like it! I'd just rather watch "The Boyfriend" and get it over with.
My niece (at 20) couldn't even sit thru 30 minutes of it. She thought it was cheesy and not in a good way, either. She was hoping it would go into grounds like THE RULES OF ATTRACTION or something more teen-realistic.
Not the case with this kiddie fest. "
Ya, GREAT!!!! Well not everyone shares your opinion!! What makes you right and him wrong??
Nothing makes me RIGHT and your niece WRONG! Truly! Is everything that black & white to you? She couldn't even sit through 30 minutes of it? She needs to have her bladder checked! You know... I only STOP or fast forward through a movie that I've given an hour or so. Besides that - CAMP and RULES OF ATTRACTION (I love both) are COMPLETELY different types of movies! I seriously think that is one of the poorest comparisons I've ever heard of! It's like saying "I don't think that Legally Blonde should be on Broadway at the same time that Phantom of the Opera" is playing. It's just doesn't make any sense! I mean, remind me again? What WAS your point?
This has got to be the most annoying thread to come in a long time.
"[Gore] was widely perceived as arrogant. If you know something, you're not smart. You're a smarty-pants. It's annoying. People get annoyed with your knowledge. It goes back to high school, to not doing your homework ... 'There's something I should know, I don't know why I should know it but someone knows it and I don't. So I'm going to have to make fun of him now.'"
-Sarah Vowell, The Partly-Cloudy Patriot
Well when you HAVE annoying camp PERSONAS such as those in this CRAP in real LIFE, who the hell wants to WASTE time watching it?! For SOME second rate divas WHO can't SUSTAIN?
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I know this isn't so popular, but sleeth, I was just thinking about how much fun Camp would be on stage the other day after I watched it for the 15th time. I love this movie and yes it needs tons of work, but it would be amazing on stage! I agree that it would be huge for younger crowds too
"Actually, I can't think of a worse idea. EXCEPT maybe a tired, old chaperone who sits on stage and plays records.... while a lame old "follies" dream goes through his head."

If you're going to criticize something, you should at least know what it's about, otherwise you look stupid.
