Helps Backpack Auction Offers One-of-a-Kind Bags and Entertainment
Brittany Allen, best known for her role as Marissa Chandler on All My Children, and Dean Armstrong, best known for his roles as Blake Wyzecki on the North American version of Queer as Folk and several roles in the stage production of Rent, will join MAC Award winner Lina Koutrakos, the cast of Naked Boys Singing, David Gurland, and Valerie Smaldone, in hosting Help Is On The Way Todays 2009 Project Backpack Designer Auction.
Contributing designers such as Peter Soronen, Bill Rancitelli, and Ping Wu will also be on hand to enjoy and share this sumptuous brunch, all to help low-income and orphaned kids in the NYC metropolitan area living with HIV/AIDS. One bag will be auctioned with the added feature/bonus of a lunch or dinner date to Aspen Restaurant with the gorgeous and talented Dean Armstrong.
Project Backpack was created in 2005 by Joseph Macchia to help collect new backpacks and school supplies for twenty-two children living in a group home in Washington Heights. Since then the drive has grown to assist over six hundred and fifty children living in New York City.
Hosted by Help Is On The Way Today, the designer backpack auction will be November 8th from 12:30pm at the Iguana VIP Lounge, 240 West 54th Street. Top designers, such as William Ivey Long (TONY Award Winning Costume Designer), Anthony Manfredonia, and Jay McCarroll (Winner, Season One of Project Runway) remade plain black backpacks into one-of-a-kind fashion items for auction at this special event. All proceeds will go directly to enriching the lives of the 650 NYC based, and 40 children in Africa, living with HIV/AIDS, who rely on Help Is On The Way Today for their basic school supplies.
