Roadmixer, anyone who asks me why I am being so "catty" I cannot take seriously.

But I will try...

The audience eats it up because they all want to see the big names, half the audience when I saw the show didn't even know who Tennessee Williams was, and the other half thought it was a musical.

No, I'm not trashing the actors...just the direction. Anyone who gives blocking (as in, stage directions) behind a couch for half the show..needs to go back to college, and take a few notes...

"Catty" = malcious, spiteful
—Synonyms: mean, nasty, malevolent; bitchy.

I think that catty is quite apropos considering the use of the term in the play but perhaps that was lost in my post. That being said, I am well aware that you were cutting up the DIRECTOR and not the DIRECTION. You said that she "clearly does not know what she is doing" - in your humble opinion, no doubt.

I see no point in going on. You are entitled to your opinion. By the way, thanks for your dumbing-down of the term blocking... how would I ever have known if you hadn't spelled it out?

I really should not be surprised by your post DidYouReallyHearMe as so many people who post here come across like you. They sound like they know better, like they are better than the people actually doing the work on Broadway. Are you a Broadway Director? No.....?

"Are you a Broadway Director? No.....?"

What a ridiculous statement. So because he is not a Broadway director, he has no place to criticize?

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I went to the see show last week. It was great!! I think all of the actors did a very good job. But I have to agree with most people, Anika definitely stole the show, she was amazing! Terrence was good too. In the first act he was ok, but by the 2nd & 3rd act I think he was much much better! The show was very entertaining, I laughed a lot. At some times the audience were laughing when it wasn't really appropriate to laugh, but overall I didn't have a problem with it. My friend thought some of the monologues were a little too long though & unfortunately it seemed like the guy in front of us thought the same because he was asleep most of the time & he was in the front row!

Did anyone catch Terrence singing in the 3rd act when he was standing by the French door in the back? He sounded good & I heard he has an album coming out this year. I think this show is definitely worth seeing, don't miss it!

If the only people allowed to give criticism or opinions on Broadway productions are those who are directing or acting in them, then there would be no message board or fan base.

What if the only people allowed to discuss and debate about the NFL are coaches, refs, and pro football players?

"[Gore] was widely perceived as arrogant. If you know something, you're not smart. You're a smarty-pants. It's annoying. People get annoyed with your knowledge. It goes back to high school, to not doing your homework ... 'There's something I should know, I don't know why I should know it but someone knows it and I don't. So I'm going to have to make fun of him now.'" -Sarah Vowell, The Partly-Cloudy Patriot

Scotty I totally agree..... However I think Ms. Hagen said it best "One of the problems in our profession is that every lay man considers themself a valid critic"

That's true too. Everyone has an opinion.

Despite the things I was hearing, I went ahead to see CAT last weekend in the hopes that Williams' brilliance would shine through any potentially misguided decisions... I was wrong.

I love, love, love the actors involved here, and hoped for the best, but it really and truly played like TYLER PERRY'S CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. Every line was played for maximum comedic or "Dayum!"-inducing effect. I strongly considered walking out during intermission(s) because I was getting tired of cringing at every roar of laughter.

Sorry.

If you go into the play with no pre-conceived notions about the play, is it enjoyable?

Everyone who dislikes the production seem to be looking for something particular going in.

How do you feel the critics will receive this production?

I think the reviews from audiences have been mostly on either side of the spectrum. Either people really enjoy it or they really dislike it. But we'll find out what the critics have to say...tomorrows opening night!!!! I wonder who from Hollywoods Gliterati will show up on Opening to see this landmark production?

I will see CAT with Mr. Howard's replacement. Mr. Howard in a recent print interview refuses to admit the fact that Brick is a repressed HOMOSEXUAL. Mr. Howard thinks Brick is merely someone who cared very much for Skipper in a heterosexual way.

I wonder if Mr. Howard, a fine actor, is yet another black man who hides inside the Bible to shield himself from the fact that a man can be GAY.

As for the rest of the production, I wish Ms. Rose the best. When Ms. Rashad stops behaving like Lena Horne I might take her seriously. Mr. Jones is always a pleasure to see; too bad he is not working with a real director.

Do you know what happens when you let Veal Prince Orloff sit in an oven too long?

Not exactly surprising.

"Do I agree with homosexuality? No, I'm a Bible-based young man. But I know the Bible also speaks about homosexuality with liars, adulterers, thieves. I've lied, I've cheated on my wife, I've stolen. So how can I judge somebody for something that's mentioned in the same exact scripture? I believe we're all sinners. We're all trying to make it but our hip-hop community are a bunch of hypocrites right now."

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I read this:

*Broadway will get a taste of Obama-mania Thursday with the expected arrival of the Democratic presidential hopeful and his wife for the opening night of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

Debbie Allen directs an all-black revival of the classic Tennessee Williams play, starring Terrence Howard, Anika Noni Rose and Allen's sister, Phylicia Rashad.

Barack and Michelle Obama will take in the play along with his most prominent supporter, Oprah Winfrey, according to the New York Daily News.

"There will be seats for the Secret Service in front and in back of him," says one insider. "We were told that he travels with even more Secret Service than Hillary [Clinton]."

Other invited celebs include Denzel and Pauletta Washington, Spike Lee, Bill and Camille Cosby and Will and Jada Smith
