Hey, Singer...thanks for coming in as a more current example of the exception to the rule. I was about ready to give up. Best of luck to you being a more well rounded person in this business.

As for Amilia and any others who want more information, or some first hand experience...just pm me, and I'll be happy to provide. The good and the bad, if you want it.

To those of you who are aspiring, best of luck to you, and I hope you knock em all dead at your auditions so that it doesn't matter what size, shape, color or hair style you are, they've gotta have you no matter what.

No problem Birdlives.... I was happy to see your post. thought it was articulate and glad to help spread that CCM does not just want skinny people! I am about as recent of a grad as it gets.. sort of:)

I enjoyed my time there, sure it was tough, but it makes the business seem much easier because of what we went through there:)

ok, so Mr. Tuttle keeps going on and on about this horrible brochure and was saying something about how there's horrible things on the website too...but I went there and I'm not finding anything out of the norm.

Mr. Tuttle - where are you seeing all this "if you're fat, don't bother" kinda stuff? Cause I'm either missing it, or it's not there...

If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

Kids, kids, kids, --

Why all the fighting?

As a CCM grad,I find this thread remarkable.
I had a wonderful time at CCM and wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Some of my classmates agree. Some do not. This, however, is the way life works. Many find working on Broadway a pleasure, many do not. Many have an easy time going from job to job, many do not. Everyone has a different journey and a different experience.

As for the weight/looks issue. When I was at CCM there was no pressure to conform or look a certain way. If you were a soprano who weighed 200 pounds then perhaps you realized that soprano roles usually go to young, thin women. If you were a bass who weighed 98 pounds, perhaps you were enlightened to the fact that lifting weights might benefit your career. Or perhaps you came to similar conclusions on your on. Just like you would in the real world.

CCM, or any school, is just a micro-cosm of the real world. Please show me all the fat chorus girls on Broadway? Anyone? Before "Hairspray" fat girls on Broadway were about as common as straight men in the audience of "Naked Boys Singing". It's reality. Pretty people get cast much more regularly and frequently than big girls and boys with fierce voices. (At least when there are young -- before they become character actors/actresses.) How many times have you seen someone in a role that could barely sing it but they were beautiful?!?! Happens all the time!! It is a fact of life. If CCM is preparing kids for the real world then good for them.

One thing CCM does is turn out stars. Yes, it turns out a boatload of chorus members, but every year one or two stars are in the mix. The chorus types will get work right away. The stars will probably have to wait a few years -- or more -- but their time will come. I've seen it happen year after year.

If you can get into CCM, by all means go!!! It is the best education you can get in musical theatre and the productions there are beyond belief. If you don't get in, then go wherever you can and work your hardest. Your professional life starts when school ends. Your work will speak for itself.

I've been told to say certain things on here, but I won't. lol I'll simply agree that CCM is right for certain people and if you are right for it, it's an amazing place to go and will help you incredibly. Just because I'm across the river doesn't mean I have to knock it. re: CCM-musical theater
