Anyone else a little worried about Wayne Cliento (Tommy/H2$/Wicked) choreographing Sweet Charity? I mean it was originally done by Bob Fosse (one of the gods lol). Wayne is good but def. comes no where near to where Fosse came. If you agree, who do you think would have been a better choice?
I think they should have done the same thing as they did in Chicago. Have Ann Reinking or Bebe Neuwirth choreograph it (since they worked and know a lot about Fosse) and just leave Fosse's choreography for Big Spender and Rich Man's Frug

Posted: 8/19/04 at 11:10amI can think of few people that would be worse than Wayne Cilento to choreograph it.

Is he making his own choreography or recreating the original Fosse choreography?
KZ would be a good charity.

He's not recreating the choreography, according to his interview at Seth's Chatterbox. He hopes to keep some of the Fosse style...and he has worked with Fosse before, so hopefully that will serve him well. I myself would rather see the original choreography, but oh well. Or have him do it "in the style of," like Ann Reinking did for Chicago, but I don't think that's what he's planning.
I think it could go either way - I really like Cilento as a dancer, and I think the Brotherhood of Man number he did for the How to Succeed revival was terrific. But I thought the Aida choreography was pretty insipid, and I don't love the Wicked choreography, either. (Though it did grow on me a bit more after a couple of viewings...but Fosse it ain't!!) I also liked some of the choreography he did for that EGG: The Arts Show "Broadway Workshop" episode.

Posted: 8/19/04 at 2:35pmI'm really not sure Cilento can pull this off -- nothing that he has done up till now has given any indication that he is capable of the wit and dynamism the dances in this show require. Someone posted on the other board that he auditioned for the new production and found the new choreography just "OK" nothing great and certainly nothing compared to the original. We'll see.

I liked what Cilento did with How To Succeed and I loved Wicked for other reasons.
I really hope Charity works because although I adore the Fosse choreography (and I was way into it before the rebirth of adoration of Fosse), as with NINE, I am looking forward to a new take on the show.

Posted: 9/1/04 at 2:21pmOf course KZ would be a fabulous Charity. However, how many people would buy tickets? You, you, her parents, and me? Hmmmm...perhaps that's why they didn't cast her...

Posted: 9/1/04 at 2:30pmYeah, sorry, i screwed his name up....let me go change it. now though im starting to think...maybe this is his big chance. he didnt really have great "dancing" material with Wicked or Aida. Maybe this is his chance to really shine...idk

Posted: 9/1/04 at 3:54pmI was not at all impressed with his work on Wicked. Dancing through life almost put me to sleep.
