HAIRSPRAY on Broadway will be lucky to have you as Tracy, and because, " you are Carly, and you are real" and, "you epitomize the role", what a deserving young lady! There are many of us excited for you and behind you all the way!! YOU GO GIRL! and God's Blessings on your life!

when would all this take place?? The tour is supposed to be running for MANY years to come. Will they jsut hold new auditions after the first section is finished??

A cast member can leave a tour whenever they want or when their contract is up. For example, Matt Cavenaugh left Millie in less than a year.

There is a story about it up. (Playbill.com? I don't know--one of the sites...) And it says the tour understudy is taking over, so I guess that answers the replacement question.

I've been waiting for a long time for this to be announced!

Yea for Carly, but I'm most excited for Keala!!!! I heard it on pretty good authority that she would be taking over the tour in May a while ago and can't be happier!!!

I do know that they are constantly having more auditions for the show as it tours, though, to answer the audtion question.

I feel like a dopey proud big brother. Congratulations to both Carly Jibson (going to B-way) and Keala Settle (taking over the National Tour). I love them both so much. They're both amazingly talented and no doubt will keep audiences packing the houses in NYC and throughout the country.

This is great because I've never seen Carly but I hear shes amazing and now that shes going to Broadway I may get to see her. I did see Keala though and I thought she was amazing so this is great for her that she'll get to do the role full-time. Great choices on the part of the producers and congrats to both!

YEA! Keala IS taking over the role! Thanks Jim for that confirmation, what a fun time for both of these young ladies! So excited to hear their news, I am sure they are on cloud nine!

For pulpsprstr-- Carly Jibson is the star of the tour. She is new. And was great when I saw the tour recently. You can read a little more about her in that story (the recent headlines thing says it's broadway.com, not playbill.com, sorry), but there is not all that much to say.

I couldn't be happier. I saw Carly on the tour twice and she was wonderful. Much better than what I witnessed last week on Broadway with Shannon Durig (please see earlier post). She has the voice and the perfect characterization of Tracy.

Yeah for Keala...I saw Hairspray twice in Minneapolis and both times Keala was on (Carly took vacation during that time). Keala blew the roof off of the Orpheum Theater and I was so glad to have seen her twice.

I saw Keala and Carly perform at a benefit and they sang In His Eyes. Both had strong voices but it was clear that Keala's had more soul to it. She's just overpowering.

Congrats to you too Jim! It was a great run in Minneapolis...people are still talking about it!

the producers of the off-broadway production of raisin in the sun have booked the Shubert Theater starting in April. Guess the gypsy folk realize its not gonna run after bernadette leaves.
