The current revival of THE COUNTRY GIRL received zero Tony Award nominations, but that's not stopping the marketing team from boasting about awards.
I received this mailer today:
LOL, that's kind of hilarious.
It is absurd, but smart at the same time.
Clever marketing.
Who's Tony Awards are they counting though?
Mike Nichols? Technically speaking, he's not really on stage. Nobody in the cast, not even Chip Zien, has a Tony award.
Oh, I see, they are also counting Nichols' other awards...tricky, tricky, tricky...and somewhat pathetic.
Pathetic. um not.
Nichols' work IS on the stage.
When you have that many awards, call us.
I meant the press trick WannaBe is referring to, not Nichols, I love Nichols' work but the fact that they say there are 8 Tony awards on stage...well, I disagree.

Hey, my favorite is the quote they have hanging from the marquee:
"A STAR STUDDED REVIVAL!"
I dunno, me and my friend disagree with all the prior criticism.
We LOVED the show, the house was nearly sold out, you could hear a pin drop, and the acting and direction was superb. Of course it has no flying monkeys or such, but old fashioned structure and playwriting, we LIKE! What with all the current Hollywood booze/drug train wrecks still obsessively in the "news", what story could be more timely? Frank and Georgie Elgin are supremely interesting characters. AND it's a valentine to backstage Broadway.
It must look odd to see all those actors carrying statues and medallions around. Something John Doyle has yet to think of
