CRY-BABY Recasting?

It looks like the producers of CRY-BABY (which goes into previews March 15th in preparation for an April 24th opening at The Marquis) are re-casting the roles of Mona and Wanda before the show gets to Broadway.

Anyone know why?

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

If you haven't seen it, how can you say that?

Nice.

I'll keep that in mind when reading any of your future postings.

re: CRY-BABY Recasting?

i have a question for anyone who has seen cry-baby..
out of curiousity, why is there a hyphen between the two words?
is cry-baby the name of a dance club or a clothing store in the musical?
thank you!

"...I thought previews started March 1st?"

I think that was just a placeholder date that Playbill put on their page for Cry-Baby. I suspect the same thing of the April 1st date that is given for The Country Girl.

re: CRY-BABY Recasting?

For some reason I thought one of these may have been the Elizabeth Stanley role. I thought there was a chance of her being replaced, guess not.

re: CRY-BABY Recasting?

I know that Megan Lawrence was Mona in readings. Maybe she can come back to the show now? Maybe? That'd be pretty fabulous.

re: CRY-BABY Recasting?

Chester Gregory's status on Facebook about a week ago was that he "is looking for a JOB!!!!" Not sure what that is supose to mean...perhaps he is leaving the production as well? Has anyone heard anything about that?

re: CRY-BABY Recasting?

As of now, Chester Gregory is still with the show.

Mona and Wanda have always been problematic roles. They were the two that were also re-cast after the workshop.

Megan Lawrence was originally slated to play Mona.

NOOOO don't recast Cristen Paige!!!

She's amazing..I can't see how she would be bad!
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

re: CRY-BABY Recasting?

She did it well.

The three "teardrops" are some of the characters undergoing some major rewrites (and from what I heard, a different song). They are going to take those two in a new direction (third times the charm!).

It will be interesting to see where they go with them.

A lot of the re-casting the first time around had to do with the look of the girls.

re: CRY-BABY Recasting?

Im surprised these two are going to be recast.. I thought the role of allison was going to be recasted, if there was any recasting.. This makes me sad.. they were really good!! Maybe they will cast some big names??
