I do feel the pie girl deserves more recognition, she is definitely a standout performance.
I think the Cigarette girl kicked the Pie girl's ass!
Went to it the other night. Ashford was its saving grace. He's the best choreographer out there today. Other than that, can you spell FLOPEROO? Bad score, witless book, a cast that looks like something out of a Kathleen Marshall musical and tacky, tacky designs.
It's been a terrible season for new musicals. I hated Young Frankenstein. Thought Little Mermaid was charmless. Thought Passing Strange was pretentious bullroar. In My Life was amusing, but empty. This is the flop of the season. Please, oh PLEASE Catered Affair be good! PLEASE!
so i saw the matinee yesterday and i really wanted to like this show....but i couldn't. there were just so many elements that were off, there really was. when the curtain went up it felt like some people were marking. yeah i mean the costumes and choreogrpahy were pretty good, but that won't sell tickets. just so many people i feel were either not cast right or literally have nothing to do. also, it seemed like many people were weridly dropping lines yesterday and making it obvious.
this is the only way i can express my feelings.

Joanna Glushak? She's not listed in my Playbill.

Is she not in it anymore? When I saw it they looked similar (her and the new girl) so I assumed it was still her since she played the role in La Jolla.
theaterdude87- that YOUTUBE video is hilarious, though I can't COMMENT anymore bec. I just adopted a NEW POLICY...If I dont see the show= No comment from me!

i went back to CRY-BABY last night to give it another try.
it was 300% better than the first preview, much improved, tighter & funnier.
im glad, because i love John Waters & i have a lot of affection for Elizabeth Stanley & i want to be able to support them.
its still not any landmark theatrical experience, but it has shaped up into a fun show.
a little bit of character development makes a big difference.
it might sound silly, but that gives me hope for life & the world; if *anything* can improve *that much* in such a short ammount of time, then maybe *anything * can get better.
(one thing i realize about myself tho, is "fun" on its own isnt enough for me; i need a good cry to balance out the laughs for a show to really make an impression...but thats *my* issue, not CRY-BABY's)
Is Spencer Liff's shirt still open in Act 1, revealing his gorgeous abs, or has that, in fact, been cut? Thanks!

They cut the gas mask waltz?????
norn, I'm thrilled to know a Waters' fan likes the show, it makes a big difference.
That was very well written and oh so funny!! Is the pie still in the finale?

the gas masks are still there, but the scene is abridged;
giving ALLISON a reprise of NOBODY GETS ME that allows her to have some character development (& Elizabeth Stanley to let loose).
...& now *she* is the one who pulls the siren & she goes to Turkey Point by herself (rather than being taken away by The Drapes), so she is more active, not such a passive character. it makes a big difference.

Oh ok...that's the same version I saw last weekend...
is the Iron Lung guy still in the show? (I know some people found that distasteful but I thought it was hysterical)
I can sleep easy tonight knowing that the "pie" hasn't been cut (so to speak).

i know some things that made it better for me were:
1. a much better behaved audience
2. not so much "wink wink" attitude towards the audience (that just kills a joke, i think)
3. i dont know if it was direction or their experience in La Jolla, but in the first preview, there were many moments when the actors "paused for laughter"...but the laughter never came.
now they just keep moving through, & the laughs come easier.

The iron lung gag (if one would call it that) is featured in the movie. Actress Mink Stole, played Hachet-Face's mother and she is wheeled in during the court room scene.
I hope it hasn't been cut.

he's still there, & gets a big laugh.
I saw the show on Friday night and Andrrew Call played the patient with the iron lung.
I have to say, I didn't hate the show. Sometimes a bad show is made better by seeing actors giving it their all, if that makes sense. I actually liked James Snyder and could actually picture him as Danny Zuko in Grease. The orchestra seemed full, but the mezz was 3/4 empty. I got a student rush seat at 6:45.
Glad I saw it, but don't know if it is a show I would rush to see a 2nd time.
