CRY-BABY: Keeps on Getting Better
CRY-BABY: Keeps on Getting Better#1

Well it is no secret on this board that I am a CRY-BABY fan. I wanted to see who else enjoyed the show and thinks it could/should have a brighter future than many people on this board think? Just to clarify this is a thread for those who like CRY-BABY to talk to each other. The haters should go else where. We know you hate. No need to posion this thread. So who else is a fan?
I just think its fun. The only thing I have seen this season that I have no problem sitting through a couple times. Always leaves me with a smile...well went back for my 3rd time last night to see how it is coming along since they keep changing so much and the show just continues to improve! And I now have talked to several people who share my opinion. Who agree the show is the most fun of the season. Not the most moving or the best writing BUT the most fun. What you want a big musical comedy to be.... I hope the critics go in next week with an open mind and judge the show without any pre-concieved notions from the haters out there. I think they could be nicer than some think. Anybody of similar mind set?

Posted: 4/17/08 at 6:03pmI only saw it the first week of previews but I had a fun time. Definitely a fan of the choreography and I am trying to see if I can make it back to see the changes. I can only imagine it has gotten immensely better!

Posted: 4/17/08 at 6:13pmI really liked Cry-Baby. I've seen it twice so far and it improved a lot in two weeks! I hope it continues to improve and the critics see the same potential and fun in the show as I do.

I haven't been able to see it yet in NYC because of work, but I'm seeing it in a few weeks and I'm very hopeful. I liked it in La Jolla and hope that it's gotten even better. And I'm glad that people who liked the show started chiming in as much as they are. I kept hearing that audiences were loving it and then I'd read all the negativity on this board and didn't get it.
I wouldn't begrudge anyone a negative opinion, but when the same 6 or 7 people are screaming about a show being the spawn of satan in every single post, I get very suspicious of their agenda. Especially when so many people on this board (including those who didn't think the show was all that great) were confounded by the "worst musical ever" talk. It makes me very happy indeed when positive vibes overcome negative ones. I have friends in the show so I know they are working like crazy to fix the problems that they are very aware of. Broadway can use another hit and I hope Cry-Baby goes from good to great.

Posted: 4/17/08 at 6:20pmWhile I wouldn't say that no major changes have occurred, my second visit to the show was substantially better than the first time. The show is definitely more fun and has been greatly improved this time around, though I still enjoyed it the first time.

BrianS, you say that you have friends in the show & that they are aware of the problems.
without naming names, what do *they* see as the problems?
i am not asking this in a negative sense, i am genuinely curious.

Posted: 4/17/08 at 9:32pmi enjoy discussing CRY-BABY because i think there *is* potential there; i just dont know what can be done to realize that potential by opening night.

Posted: 4/17/08 at 10:09pmI saw Crybaby three weeks ago and loved it, can't wait for the cast recording. I take it the show has changed since I saw it though, new songs and everything.
re: CRY-BABY: Keeps on Getting Better#14
Posted: 4/17/08 at 11:32pmn69n, I can only speak for the 2 people I spoke with (not the entire cast or creative), but they felt that they needed to fine tune the tone of the comedy in the show and that they were getting closer. A lot of jokes were landing, but there were bits that needed an overhaul. The score is no Hairspray, but the songs were getting laughs. The dancing is in great shape (though very hard on their bodies). Of course, this conversation was a week ago or so and things have changed a lot since then. It definitely doesn't feel like when Little Mermaid was in previews where they basically had the show almost frozen from day one in spite of problems they were well aware of.

Posted: 4/17/08 at 11:59pmSaw it for the 3rd time tonight, and it is MUCH better than the 2nd time, and MUCH MUCH better than the 1st time. They've fixed a LOT of problems, and made a lot of great alterations in structure. I love the new beginning to Nobody Gets Me, and both that, and Alison's new pieces at the beginning of the show propel the story in an effective way.

Posted: 4/18/08 at 12:02amI've seen it 4 times and I really loved it. People say the songs are forgettable but I'm still humming the songs everyday. Keeping my fingers crossed for the coming reviews.
