I will jump off my roof if that's true.

i guess we'll have to keep our eye out on imdb.com for this. i didn't like the film version anyway, so if they do remake it I hope it's more like the stage version.

The movie version is its own creature, and that's fine. It's great in its own right.

I thought I had heard about this somewhere. Maybe with all the Mairamax stuff?

I agree with Plum... The movie and the film are of the same family, but are different stories altogether almost. I'd love to see a remake, but rest assured, Liza and Joel will remain in my heart and on my shelf for as long as my VHS lasts!
Being that the film is so different, I'd kind of like to see a film version closer to what they did with the most recently revival. Obviously the film version is a bit untouchable, and trying to remake that incarnation of it wouldn't be a wise move, but doing it differently might be nice.

Exactly! Re-imagining a show like that, or even just making something closer to the storyline of the show would be a welcome addition to my movie collection!:)
Yes. I'd love to see a movie version of the recent revival of cabaret with rob marshall and sam mendes directing.
I'd like to see that too, if it is done right.
I'm sure I'd flip out and pull what I pulled when they first started with the RENT movie all over again. You know, I'd head the "this is going to SUCK" campaign.

Oh yes! with all of the "I'm going to ban the film!" campaigns... been there... done that... going to see the movie anyway :)
ha, that was poorly written - sorry. I'm officially in love with everything that is the RENT film now. Things have changed since my old campaignin' days!

What's the difference between a movie and a film?
I think she meant the movie and the show?

Okay, spoilers for the movie ahead.
Sally is American, for a start, because Liza couldn't do an English accent. Her love interest is named Brian. There's a threesome with a German guy. The secondary couple is a young German man and a young Jewish woman rather than an elderly couple. The old couple's music (Pineapple, Married) becomes incidental musica played on a phonograph record. Songs are added and eliminated. It's quite different.

hahaha... sorry... I definately meant the movie and the show... It's late where I am, and I guess it means that it's time for bed. The point is, I love them both, and I would gladly take on another re-imagination or re-make... although I'd prefer the re-imagination :)

If we're remaking classic Oscar winning movies, can we please remake GONE WITH THE WIND? I'm sure it would be MUCH better with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Directed by Joel Schumacher with lots of homoerotic subtext.
I really hope they don't remake it. It's a classic, and no one could ever re-create the performances of Liza and Joel to such a high standard.

Well, if it must happen, can we please get Natasha Richardson to come back and play Sally?

I've checked through Friday night's Extra and the weekend edition of the show and I can assure everyone there is NO mention of a new Cabaret movie.
If BwayBaby18 has more specific information (like an actual air date), it can be checked. Otherwise, consider the report bogus.
if there's a remake, i'd want it to be like the revival and i'd want susan egan to be sally bowles. that would put a big smile on my face.
