So... I just landed the job of costume designer (and assistant lighting designer) for my theatre school's production of Cabaret. But the internet, and various books I have aren't much of a help. Anyone know where I can get really good looks at what the fashion was like in Berlin from the years 1925-31? I've e-mailed Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar to see if I could get my hands on any old copies of the magazine from those years, and have a few books... but where would y'all look? Thanks guys! You always have such helpful insights. Cabaret Costumes

My school is also doing Cabaret and our costume designer got the book “The Hot Girls of Weimar Berlin” By Barbara Ulrich. She said it was a good book to get ideas from.

Does anyone have suggested reading for researching Cabaret? I know that there's a great new book called - The Making of Cabaret (Paperback)by Keith Garebian

Any other ideas?

Many thanks.

well, if it's about making the movie, I'm trying to stay away from that, and make it my own, but if it's about a general Cabaret, or the making of the show, then I'll def. read it. I mean I'm sure it would be helpful, so I may get it anyway... but thank you.

Yes, it is about the making of the musical. It is part of a series written by that gentleman, he also has books about the making of Gypsy, My Fair Lady, West Side Story and Guys and Dolls.

The first thing to read is Isherwood's "The Berlin Stories". Also take a look at the original film of Grand Hotel or any of the Dietrich flics like Blue Angel.

just, where would I find these lingerie catalogues? I need to look in archives, and the libraries around here aren't really much help...
