What is your favorite moment in Cabaret?
I like the drum roll at the very end. It's terrifying, oppressive, sadistic, and inevitable--all the things the Nazis were.
And if it shocks the audience speechless, it's a sign you've done well. :)

Yours was my "most shocking" moment.
My favorite moment had to be.... Emcee's entrance - mainly for sentimental reasons.

You've got one guess. Let's see if you've been lurking long enough.

Favorite moment- "I told you so". Yes, yes you did. And we all ignored it.
Mein Herr is fun, too.
Least favorite? I have to say that "I Don't Care Much" doesn't.... make me care much. I read that at one point the song was supposed to be sung by a random hooker on the street, and I like that idea much better than giving it to the Emcee. The song doesn't really work with The Emcee, in my opinion. It's too straightfoward and sad, so unlike his jeering, sly self. The other way would have been far more effective and ominous.

My one guess is Raul Esparza.
Insomniak, in the production I saw with the Emcee being female, when it got to 'I Don't Care Much' it had Sally thinking about what to do with Cliff, her career and her baby. Then the Emcee came on, wearing a dress exactly like the one Sally was wearing. The Emcee stroked Sally's hair and began to sing.
Very creepy and very memorable. :)

She flip flops between the two.
4ever, I like that idea. Did you use the revival script? If so, what changes did you need to make? I know I have heard that the Emcee can be female without any alterations with the original script, but I'm not so sure if that would work with the new version.

Well the ladies in 'Two Ladies' were two men in drag. :p

Did the revival have a curtain call/bow? The production I was involved in didn't, just because it didn't SEEM like the type of show that should have one.

I THINK he bowed and then took off his coat, but I'm not sure. The script didn't say.

And with the female emcee she had a bowtie on each breast. :p
Yeah, they had a curtain call.

Have you got any photos, 4ever?

Cabaret- My Favorites
Line: Candy Buckley delivering the line "Goooooooooooood eeeeeeeeeveeeeeeeniiiiiiiiiiiiiing Frrrrrrrrrrrreilllllllllieeeeeeeeeeeee Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhnieder!"
Scary moment: When the curtain rises and the orchestra has vanished. But the music myseriously continues to play but less upbeat, and slightly under pitch.
Emcee: Raul Esparza
Sad moment: When Sally runs back to the Kit Kat Klub and Max is standing there at the door smoking.
Sexy moment: The Emcee in a dress and heels.
Funny moment: The finger dance the Emcee does to attract your attention when the music for Wilkommen starts. Don't know why, but it ALWAYS cracked me up.
Sally- Susan Egan
Number: Two Ladies I listening to Raul sing "we switch partners daily to play as we please" over and over...
Chorus boy/violinist: Maurice Villa-Lobos. Well, he's just wunderbar.
Costume: The kimono worn during audience participation.
That's pretty much all that comes to mind right now...
Oh and Emcee, my signature is just something that was stumbled upon during a very late night AIM conversation!
HA! Who said it?!
Didn't Neil Patrick Harris play the Emcee? Did anyone see him? how was he?
EMCEEE vs. CLIFF
and......go!
The Emcee is the Song and Dance man who is the "Star" of the show (I think because the "Name" performer has always taken this part) While Cliff is the biggest role in the show, the true lead role and the center character of the story.
Yeah I agree. I feel like Cliff is the underdog though...maybe i'm bias. Yes Neil Patrick Harris played the MC for a while. My friend saw him and said he was fine. Nothing spectacular. She said Raul Esparza was the most dinamic.

Versus how? Who we like better? Who's more instrumental?
I'll pick the first, I guess. No surprise that I like the Emcee better - I just have a really strong affinity for those narrator-type characters. I love how sly and creepy he was... always watching. There's just so much a truly talented actor could do with a part like that, and no two performances would ever be the same.
