Posted: 1/17/07 at 6:31pmIt is a deeply, deeply flawed show that, without a non-profit production or big stars, wouldn't do well in the current Broadway economy.

CAMELOT has never worked. The musical covers too much territory and loses itself in the process. It contains some wonderful IDEAS, but they aren't fully realized.
With this show, one is better off sitting home with the original cast recording and enjoying its lush and melodic score.

I have to agree. It's a beautiful piece of work and the score is enchanting, but creative teams have yet to find the formual to make it soar. I had heard that the Robert Goulet/Chuck Wagner staging many years ago was in some opinions a worthy production. I missed the recent Paper Mill's attempt with Brent Barrett & Matt Bogart so I can't comment.(But I can imagine the acting/singing being excellent).
I will cover this touring Camelot in June when it stops in Philly.
