Teen Angel's line change for the song "Beauty School Drop-Out" in GREASE: "But no customer would go to you, unless she was a BOOKER!!!"

Dee Hoty, like Chita gets nominted for practially EVERY show she does. Heck, she even got a Tony nomination out of FOOTLOOSE!
Another example: Christopher Plummer in CYRANO.

Well, probably the best example would be Delores Gray, who won a Best Actress Tony for the musical CARNIVAL IN FLANDERS. Total run of the show: Six performances.

Don't get me startedon THE WIZ. That movie had me crying for a week!
When I think of the movie MAME I think of Kirby Furlong as Young Patrick Dennis He gave one of the most excrutiating "LEMME OUTTA HERE!!!" performances ever captured on fim! He looked like his mother MADE him go into show business!

Also, consider another lighthearted musical that was packin' 'em in at the St. James at the time: The 1971 revival of NO, NO, NANETTE. After that fun, nostalgic trip to the 1920s many people thought FOLLIES was a real bummer.
To quote Steven Suskin: "TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA worked in 1972. FOLLIES didn't."
