Does anyone know why this song was not included in the movie?
It is one of my favorite songs.
I just love CAMELOT. Such a remarkably fantastic score.

Not only is it not in the movie, it's not in the show anymore.
The song was cut a few weeks after opening. The show was running too long. It is not included in the rental materials when you produce the show.
"Take Me to the Fair" was also cut, but was put back for the movie.
I guess it was not incommon at the time to make cuts and changes after opening night.
Back in those days, they recorded cast albums on the first day off after opening week.
Really? Didnt know that.
In shows liscensed for community productions, is it optional or just not available at all?
"Take Me To The Fair" was in the 1982 Broadway revival.

I don't think it's included in the materials. For that matter, many productions cut the whole Morgan LeFay scene, which isn't on the album, but IS in the script and score.
Hmmm. I really didn't know that. I do hope they include it in the revival coming up, because it's one of my favorite songs in the show.
I just checked Tam-Witmarks website. 'Take Me to the Fair' and 'Fie on goodness' are both listed as "Optional Additional Numbers".
When I did the show a couple of years ago, both numbers were included in the materials. We chose to do "Fie on Goodness," but did not use the Morgan le Fay scene (it's just...bad). "Fie on Goodness" turned out to be just about everyone's favorite song, the cast and the audience.
It really is a great, great song.
Camelot was my first professional show in the late 80s and the tour I did included Fie on Goodness and Take me to the Fair - two of the best numbers in the show (Take Me to the Fair is SO much fun to be a part of)..I have very fond memories of that show.
When I saw the show at Arena last season (a fantastic production, I might add) both songs were in it! Camelot is definitly among my favorite shows, and Take me to the Fair is one of my favorite numbers. I also love the power of the all male voice on Fie On Goodness...oddly enough, it reminds me of 'Bloody Mary' from South Pacific.
Fie on Goodness serves an important purpose in the show.
SPOILERS BELOW
When Arthur intentionally leaves his men helpless to get slaughtered by Lancelot's men, well... the audience just might lose sympathy for the guy at that point.
Fie on Goodness shows the men who are about to die in a negative light, so maybe the audience feels it's no great loss.
I was in the high school production when I was in fourth grade, and "Take Me To The Fair" was definately my favorite number. That, and "Simple Joys of Maidenhood". Overall, it's just a really fun show.

I LOVE Camelot (obvious, huh, Guen?) and I really love Fie On Goodness. I would think that the song is pivotal to the plot...
Yes, it is.
Which is why I think it was odd to leave it out of the movie.
But the movie is weak overall, anyway.

'Camelot" is a great show. Still very long. What could you cut and still have a wonderful production? I've done it twice. The second time , I cut some the one march in Act One, Scene 1, never did "Fie on Goodness", Peter Filichia's book 'Let's Put on a Musical" suggests cutting the role of Pellinore! - how could that be done! I really love the show, but it is terribly long.Any suggestions?
TAKE ME TO THE FAIR should never ever ever ever ever be cut!

Cut "What Do the Simple Folk Do." I despise that song, and it goes on forever and ever and ever. And I can see cutting Pellinore easily. He's a bit of comic relief in a show that's sadly lacking it, but doesn't really serve any great purpose. But keep "Fie on Goodness." Such a great song.
