Can Applegate sing?

Posted: 12/27/04 at 7:21pmI'm sorry if there's already been a post about this subject, but does anyone know if Christina Applegate has a good voice? I'm really looking forward to Sweet Charity, and I thinks she's adorable, but I never knew that she sang. I guess her voice doesn't have to be incredible, since from what I've heard Charity isn't a too demanding part vocally

Posted: 12/27/04 at 7:23pmCharity actually doesn't have to be a great singer, just passable. The big questions for me are: can she dance and does she have stage charisma (the audience has to fall in love with her).

I don't know about the others, but Stritch didn't win Tonys for those roles.
If, on the other hand, you're saying people can make very Tony-worthy performances in musicals while not singing as well as Sutton Foster, then I agree with you. :)

Posted: 12/27/04 at 9:23pmI have a feeling she will surprise a lot of people. I am glad Jane Krakowski isn't doing it (didn't she throw something at Neil Simon at a workshop last year?). Krakowski is all wrong for Charity, and Applegate more appropriate. I never got the whole Jane Krakowski thing. She good, but I didn't think her performance in Nine was all that special, just showy. Tomei could have worked too, Elfman, who has little charisma, not so much.

This has been on-and-off for what now, 2 years? I'll believe it when I see the marquee on Broadway.
And as much as I like Christina, she had damn well better not beat Sutton out. And yes, yes, it's far too early to debate over Tony's. I'm just playing favorites. Shoot me.

Because Sutton deserves it more than any of the other nominees...???

"She also performed with Carmen Electra, Christina Aguilera in some Burlesque time show called "Pussycat Dolls Live". Nit sure what that was exactly, but there are all of these shots with the women in fishnets moving around..."
Think Moulin Rouge with less can-can and more sex. It's like a strip club with sensuality and no nudity. Still pretty hot though. Or so I've heard. Probably not indicative of her ability to do "Sweet Charity"
but her other dance experience is a positive.

I think Christina is going to be great! I am looking foward to Sweet Charity.
And personally, I don't understand all the Sutton hype.. *Waits to be shot by crazy Sutton fans*.

Jane Krakowski would have been lovely for this role, i think...
but I really think Christina Applegate will do a tremendous job with this role... she's hilarious! I can't wait till it opens!

I was just watching my Anchorman (yes, Anchorman - if loving Brick Tambland is wrong, then I don't wanna be right!) bonus disc (it came with the DVD if you bought it from Best Buy - it's a CD in a square blue sleeve with about 30 minutes of extra footage on it), and in one of the outtakes, Christina is sitting with Will Ferrel and talking to one of the people working in the film and suddenly starts going into an ab-libbed song. It doesn't last very long, and the person she was singing about talked over her towards the end, so you don't get anything much, but from what was there, I enjoyed listening to her. She's obviously not going to be Sutton Foster or Sara Ramirez, but she won't be nails on a chalkboard, either.
Just thought I'd share!

Posted: 1/2/05 at 4:15amI'm really excited about Christina Applegate doing the show because I love her so much and I've never seen Sweet Charity before, but I hear it's a great show so I can't wait to see it. Anyway, I wouldn't be upset if Christina beat Sutton because even though Sutton has an amazing voice we haven't heard Christina yet and she is a better actress.
