So, I'm watching "Tootsie" and Dustin Hoffman was doing the putting on makeup scene before his first day. It got me thinking, can he sing? Cause he's just about the right age to be Albin/Zza Zza in "La Cage Aux Folles."
Well, it just was revived on Broadway, so I doubt we'd see Hoffman headlining a revival here, but regionally, who knows? I don't know if he can sing.

I figured there was no chance of a revival for a while, but regionally, or maybe even a film version....granted they might just call it "Tootsie: 2" but meh.
He starred in the Broadway musical "Jimmy Shine" in 1968 and I believe got very good reviews and awards.

Michael Shurtleff talks about his original audition for "The Apple Tree" in "Audition." It doesn't sound like Mr. Hoffman has the greatest voice, but I've never heard him.
No, I haven't seen Ishtar yet. I am kind of afraid to hear Dustin sing. Is he any good? For some reason, it gets stolen from the Libraries and Video Stores never bother to replace it. I heard it is on DVD in the UK. Word is it might get a US release real soon.
His voice is rather unique, so it is difficult to imagine him carrying a tune. Now rapping? Maybe. I thought he looked terrible honey though, in drag. As bad as Patrick Swayze in Too Wong Foo. Some guys just don't look good in drag, no matter how much make-up you put on. Add sequins and you just want to cry. Give me Nathan Lane instead.

I thought Swayze and Hoffman looked good. But that's just me...
