Can Someone Explain Rush to Me

So this is embarassing that I've seen so many shows, but I don't know anything about rush or student rush tickets. I'm going up August 22-26 and wanted to know if someone could explain to me how it works. Would my no-name, little PA school ID get me a ticket? And what usually is the cost? And what time do you have to be there? The shows I was thinking about were Porgy and Bess, Chicago, Rent, and Sister Act. Thanks!

When I rushed Porgy & Bess, I was able to get a great ticket in row F of the orchestra twenty minutes before curtain for a Sunday matinee a few weeks ago. If things haven't changed (and I assume they haven't, considering this was right after Audra returned from vocal rest), then there's probably no need to show up too early for that one.

Phantomcrazy14, didn't know if you were old enough for the reference. Rush is kind of old school. Many, now, indulge in Jungle Juice. LOL I would review Playbill's general rush and lottery section. From what I viewed, Rent does not have a rush, only a lottery. But it states that they sell loser seats for $40. Also, while Chicago and Sister Act operate their rush like most, when the box office opens, Porgy and Bess does it at later times. If you are able to do a two show day, I would pick Sister Act and Chicago for those days. I would stand in line for Sister Act for the matinee. After purchasing your ticket, either matinee or evening, then I would walk over to Chicago and purchase, the show time that was available for you. Many who rush on two show days, seem to purchase the matinee, leaving the evening slot open.

ArtMan, thanks for the advise. But I did some thinking and decided I should see Porgy and Bess and Rent if any. While I'd much rather see Chicago and Sister Act, Porgy and Rent are closing and will not be having a tour. And thanks bway1261 for the advice on Porgy. I'd probably get there 45 or 30 minutes early just to be safe if I see Porgy.

Their take of "the words of the Profits were written on the Studio Walls . . . and concert halls" is a dark look back at Simon & Garfunkel's "The words of the Prophets are written on the subway walls, and tenement halls", and the "sounds of salesmen" plays off of "sounds of silence".
