Actually there is a great detailed, in depth synopsis that can be found in practically every city.
You'll find it at......THE LIBRARY. It's a book written by Wilkie Collins.
READ IT.

The book is loosely based on the novel. There are differences between the two -- i.e. the secret -- that make it worth the while to read both.
Unfortunately I can't help you with a synopsis.
