Can we talk about Marilyn Maye at Carnegie Hall last night?!?!

She sang "I'm Still Here" and was INCREDIBLE! And unlike Elaine Stritch, she remembered the words! She brought some much needed life to the relatively bland Sondheim 80th birthday concert at Carnegie Hall last night. Don't get me wrong...I'm a big fan of Kate Baldwin and Christiane Noll, but their personalities in my opinion, along with Alexander Gemingnani (sp?) and Aaron Lazar, were just not strong enough to carry a concert like that. Thoughts from others who were there?

I was there too. She was truly incredible. I loved how deep her voice was. I agree it was a big highlight of the evening. I love all of the soloists, but none of them gave a version of a song that was better than a version I had already heard. I loved the Pops playing the Merrily overture at the start and the Sweeney Todd Symphonic Suite at the beginning of the second half. Stunning.

I agree. Other than Maye, there were no special moments. I was not expecting any with the soloists announced.
