Hello, Dolly! Revival

Dec 14, 2010 — 7:25:23 PM

NO!!!!! Dolly needs to be charming and Patti isn't really charming, you know what I mean? I'm in the minority that thinks Babs is perfection in the film version. Christine Ebersole would be a much better choice in my opinion. BTW, I recently saw Marilyn Maye at the Metropolitan Room and she could totally still do it.

Hello, Dolly! Revival

Wasn't there talk of Leslie Uggams doing it? Maybe that was a while back...she's 67 now...but I could see it.

Can we talk about Marilyn Maye at Carnegie Hall last night?!?!

Nov 20, 2010 — 8:45:19 AM

She sang "I'm Still Here" and was INCREDIBLE! And unlike Elaine Stritch, she remembered the words! She brought some much needed life to the relatively bland Sondheim 80th birthday concert at Carnegie Hall last night. Don't get me wrong...I'm a big fan of Kate Baldwin and Christiane Noll, but their personalities in my opinion, along with Alexander Gemingnani (sp?) and Aaron Lazar, were just not strong enough to carry a concert like that. Thoughts from others who were there?

Songs about the Mail/Post Office/Letters

Nov 18, 2010 — 6:34:34 PM

"I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter" (jazz standard)-great song-Michael Feinstein sang it in his "Power of Two" show with Cheyenne Jackson Ones that most likely wouldn't work out of context: "The Speed Test" from Thoroughly Modern Millie. Not sure this would work for a concert...you kind of need a chorus of tap dancers. "Letter Song" from The Secret Garden Oh what's that song from SMILE..."Dear Mom" I think...that might be funny if you're doing a drag show "Dear Mr. Gable: You...

Songs about unrequited love

Christine Ebersole @ the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Oct 23, 2010 — 10:48:17 AM

Did anyone else go to her concert last night? She was unbelievable, maybe the best I've ever heard her sound. I had no idea she had such a strong belt. Here are some of the songs she sang: Too Darn Hot Give It Back to the Indians The Folks Who Live on the Hill I've Got a Crush on You That's Him The Last Rose of Summer 42nd Street Stormy Weather Matelot Mink, Schmink I'll See You Again I know I left a bunch out...that's just what I can remember off the top of my head. If anyone else was there,...
