I just joined TDF and have tix for November today - but I was wondering if it was possible to pick up tickets earlier in the day, as opposed to 30 minutes beforehand.
Anyone know?
I have, but they are not always there.
Depends on the day I guess.
Conversely, I know that with some papering, if you don't show up by a designated time, you lose your seat. Is that true for TDF also, or are they "regular" tickets? How about Goldstar?

You don't lose your seat with TDF. In my experience, you can show up any time after the box office opens and get your tickets.
I've not even lost my seat from some of the papering agencies when showing up late (although I did get scolded once) -- when you get the ticket straight from the box office, at least.
I think the way it works -- and I might be wrong -- is that when it's etickets, the box office just gets a list from TDF of buyers for the day and prints off the set block of TDF tickets for them sometime that day (I know this because I have a friend in one of the box offices who always told me to let him know when I was seeing a TDF show there so I could get one of the better seats ). And I'm sure they do that more than 30 minutes before the show.

ive picked up tickets when the boxoffice has opened earlier and
sometimes like two hours before a show so i can have dinner or shop
I've found that it kind of depends. In some cases I think the box office does have a list and they just pull your ticket(s) from a pile or have printed them off earlier. In other cases, they are sent over to the theatre already split into envelopes (because it's not the standard ticket envelop from the box office) and those sometimes aren't delivered until shortly before curtain. It kind of depends on the show. I've picked mine up a couple of hours in advance at some places and then other times (usually if I ordered the ticket that day) it was between 45 and 30 minutes before curtain.
