re: Canadian Rock of Ages cast at New Year's

I wouldn't say it was horrible. I would say that the Toronto cast does not appear to be anywhere as strong as the Broadway cast. They need a lot of work before the April opening. As my friends said last night, "The performance just made me not want to see it."

From what I saw/heard last night, Elicia MacKenzie pleasantly surprised me. I look forward to her performance as Sherrie. As for Yvan Pedneault, I still feel that Mirvish could have cast Drew with someone better. I am already cringing at the thought of his Quebecois-accent pushing its way through some of his lines. Another disappointment was Aaron Walpole as Lonny. I still can't picture him delivering his lines with the needed punch. He gave off a truly awkward vibe during last night's performance.

I hope things drastically improve by April.

You guys do realise that rehearsals havent even started for this show yet.. that was thrown together in like a week just for a general interest.. you cant expect them to be fully bonded, they havent even gone thru the show yet!

For what it was meant for, i think it was good! also considering Elicia did a matinee of Sound of Music right before this.. give em a break it was just so people can hear the music and them singing it.. You cant put this against a cast that has been doing the show for how long, it wasnt an in character performance..

THanks for the link...hadn't seen those.
I personally am really looking forward to seeing the show/cast in May. I loved Yvan in We Will Rock You so think he'll be great in ROA. As someone else commented, they are just at the start of rehearsals (if started at all) so they have many months to perfect their roles. Never seen Elicia in Sound of Music, but from the video, think she'll do a good job.

I know very little about ROA, but that New Year's Eve performance looks pretty good to me, and has actually made me more interested in the show than I was previously (which was "not interested").

I have some slight doubts on Elicia Mackenzie, but the other performers seemed to have good rock voices.
