I have been trying to find a good version of CANDLE ON THE WATER from Pete's Dragon. Besides Helen Reddy's (which I think is amazing), there has not been one person (IMO) that I have felt given the song justice. Can any help me with any suggestions on who to listen too, that have sang this song?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I can't...cause I agree with you. I think Helen Reddy is so remarkable and unique that it's just never gonna be as pleasing to the ear as her version.

On the Disneymania 4 Album, Annaliese Van Depol does a great job, but the song is just a little too updated. It's still a charming cover of the song.
Ok, I can't help the OP, but just wanted to add that I love this song! I remember seeing this movie as a kid and it really helped lead into my musical obsession.
Hey, thanks jagfkb I listen to that one already...but really did not like it either. I thought it was good but not LIKE WOW.
I am trying to find the "WOW" in it and know one has proven that to me yet!
Stick with the Helen version.
When the film was released in Australia, every person who brought a ticket was given a special floppy red colored vinyl (45's) single from the movie. Still have mine to this day, this is a film that Disney should bring to the stage!

Pete's Dragon would be so amazing on Broadway if done right.
Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't there a good version on On the Record?
At any rate, that's a great CD...
Since Helen Reddy's is the original, I personally see no reason to yearn for another version. Eh, I have so many fond memories of that movie that any other version will pale in comparison for me. Plus, you just *know* someone else will try to update it when the old-fashioned, pure, unadorned Disney-ness of that song needs no embellishment! :)

there you go
I agree Helen Reddy is best, but Dwayne Britton does a good job as well.

Hello, ELTON JOHN! It was only like the biggest single ever. I THINK that proves it's pretty good.
I had no idea it was from a movie though.
Joe, wrong song Eltons was Candle in the Wind......

What? There are two songs so similar?
Candle in THE WIND.
Candle on THE WATER.
Only thing "similar" about the two are the titles. They're completely different songs.
I still have my PETE'S DRAGON soundtrack on vinyl somewhere tucked away in a box.
Haven't heard it in years. It's a beautiful song though.
Pete's Dragon is my favorite movie ever.
I have Dwyane's version, even though I like his voice, I don't like some of his notes and choices he used to extend and cut short on certain words...they way he says "Water" like "Wa-ter" bothers the F*** out of me, and therefore don't listen to it at all.
I am looking at the song list of ON THE RECORD now... don't see the song listed. Maybe it's on a different CD or a in a place I am not looking!

This thread should NOT be on the Broadway board.. Can someone move it to off-Topic?
Thanks
nope!
I liked what they did on pushing Daisies! :O)
And I too love this song!

DrTheatre,
Since you started this thread, maybe you should think next time and not post something that has nothing to do with Broadway on the Broadway message board.
Thanks Jennafan...now I want you to go to every topic on here that has nothing to do with Broadway and post the same message you post on here for me.
I post it on here because I know many more people will look at on here than on any other board...there is a topic that I was planning on mentioned about Broadway and the show, but now you just ruined the moment.
Love the topic. Glad you posted!

DrTheatre,
You've been a member here since '05, I'm sure by now you know the difference between a subject about Broadway and something that is off-topic.
That's BS you posted this here just because people read this board more. Um, HELLO! People that only care about Broadway may only want to read about Broadway and not your quest to find a song.
