Thanks Jenna!
WOW!
You would think that you posted a topic about THE MATRIX or something.
Look, the dude posed a question to people who are really into MUSICALS. Pete's Dragon being a musical definetly falls into that catorgy. Are we now not allowed to post about HAIRSPRAY the Movie, or MAMMA MIA the movie as well? He wanted help and knew that there was some good knowledge on this board. Give the guy a break....Merry Christmas!!!
On that note,
I love that movie and have been contemplating a Pete's Dragon Tattoo...lol. This too, like someone said, help feed my loving of BROADWAY and MOVIE musicals.
If it were a Broadway show, how would everyone like to see the Dragon done? Not like Shrek I am sure!!
Anyway, GREAT TOPIC! Sorry I couldn't help with another version.

P.S. For the grammer police, I apologize now if there are any grammer issues. I am sure there are.

SO wait, there are TWO songs both called Candle on the Water? That's messed up. How do you tell them apart? Is Pete's Dragon about Pricess Di?

This OP posted this on the right board - look at the responses he has gotten - those of us with caring attitudes respond regardless if it doesn't fit to a "T" -

Amen,
And really, is it honestly difficult to NOT click on the link if the subject matter doesn't appeal to you. My thoughts are it is pretty easy to read..."Candle on the Water....." and think, "nah...I'll skip this one, don't want to read about Pete's Dragon."
I would say that isn't too difficult in the grand scheme of things.
Thanks again Dr Theatre for a great topic.

Jenna, if you don't want to read this thread, don;t click on it. There are many threads i don't care about, whether they be on topic or not that I just pass by.
and look at his responses! I think he was right to post it on this board. More people do look at the Broadway board more and so he has a better chance of getting an answer.
if you disagree, ignore the thread. No one is forcing you to stay and read it.

Joe I am not sure if you are being silly or you really don't know, so I will go with the latter.....
Two very different songs......One called "Candle in the Wind" by Elton John that was about Marilyn Monroe, than after Di's death Elton changed some of the lyrics for Diane....
The other song from a 1977 Walt Disney movie Pete's Dragon, that song was called "Candle on the Water"
That film had a cast list that read like this.....
Helen Reddy ... Nora
Jim Dale ... Dr. Terminus
Mickey Rooney ... Lampie
Red Buttons ... Hoagy
Shelley Winters ... Lena Gogan
Sean Marshall ... Pete
Jane Kean ... Miss Taylor
Jim Backus ... The Mayor
Charles Tyner ... Merle
Gary Morgan ... Grover
And last but not least......
Helen singing the song from the film.....

Thanks guys for defending me. I am smart enough to post on boards that I knew I would get a great valued and respected response. Most do not look at the other boards and I know the demographic is not that same. I respect my fellow musical lovers, where I know that if I posted on the main board that everyone see's I would get the best, smart and most thought-out response from any walk of life that saw it. That is why I posted it on here.
And if you really concerned about the Broadway angle to it, then so be it; I was told that it might have a chance at becoming a full length musical geared toward children. But, they (those who mentioned this to me) were having a hard time decided who would sing that song...and it would have to be good. At that point, it got me to think who else had sang this song and gave it the justice it deserved. I then posted it on here.
A friend of mine heard Michelle Nicastro version and I found it quite nice...I was unable to hear the whole thing cause I don't have a Credit Card to buy the song on AOL Music. The title of her Album is caled Reel Imagination....

Enjoy everyone!!! I will keep you posted!
Thanks DrTheatre. I'm not sure I like that version very much. It sounds too happy given it's supposedly sung to a lover believed to be lost at sea. Pete's Dragon could indeed make a fine musical, though, and I'm sure if they use the song it will be sufficiently soulful.

I have found that most of the threads on the main board are not just about broadway but allso about musicals you don't see anyone else complaining about this.
BUT I LOVE PETES DRAGON IT'S AN ALL TIME CLASSIC!

The meanness shown by so many people on these kind of messageboards is very disheartening, especially at this season of the year. Does it really matter that much?

Who keeps responding to this non-Broadway type thread?
Let's move on people and hopefully DRwhatever will learn that there is an off-topic board.

Agreed. I'm not sure why people feel the need to be dismissive, cruel, and self-righteous on these boards. I always thought of musicals as sources of delight, inspiration, joy, and, in the best of cases, awe. Something like Pete's Dragon may not be Sondheim, but it certainly fulfills my basic requirements for a memorable musical experience. It's a shame it has become fuel for vindictive, self-appointed policing.
I love this movie too. Everybody is great: Jim Dale is perfect, and Shelly Winters is so campy.
Having said that : No bloody Broadway Musical should be made of this. Its a film - perfect as is - let it stay that way.
I was just listening to this and came across this thread. Way too weird.
Maria Friedman singing Candle on the Water...among other things

A note to the board police - a better approach might be talking to the mods. Crazy idea, I know.
And I'm just sad the Pushing Daisies "Candle on the Water" aired too late to make it onto the soundtrack in complete form.

On the right hand side it says Listen Again. Click on Hear the Show. (It took me a little while to figure it out too, since I hadn't listened to it a first time.) It comes up in iplayer.
trinaaron, thanks! DrTheatre, it's about a 1/3 of the way into the program and it's really lovely!
