I agree, at least from the recording, it's a marvellous score, "One more walk..." is a fabulous ballad (which is also featured on the Alan Jay Lerner songbook cd by Julie Andrews).

Was Carmelina staged for the event or was it just a concert reading?

I saw the original CARMELINA and loved it. I recall that Jose Ferrer was in the audience and Siepi was out. Many years later I did a production of SOUTH PACIFIC that was choreographed by a gal who was in the show. He name escapes me.
