What happened to Adrienne Lenox? I saw the show in July and she was listed in the playbill, but not on the website.

Not sure. Perhaps she got another show and/or a better gig (it's gotta be tough to be a standby when you're a respected -- and Obie-winning -- performer in your own right). I believe Alexander only got cast a week or two ago.

hmm... *strums imaginary beard thoughtfully* the mystery
im glad tonya is getting a vacation though, her voice is fantastic, but it seemed to me that she was having a hard time with some of the higher notes, perhaps because she hasnt missed any performances, and has been doing those exhausting shows 8 times a week for so long. it'll be too bad for the audiences who see the show without her, but it is a powerful enough piece of theater that i think it can hold up without its star.
I seem to recall hearing that Adrienne was going to be in The Color Purple musical in Atlanta. Can't be 100% sure though.
That is very true. She will be playing Shug Avery.
Here's a Caroline, or Change question for you all. Just something I've puzzled over.
Why does Rose, Veanne Cox's character, pronounce Caroline's name as Carolynne, while everyone else calls her Caroline? Noah generally calls her Caroline too, but in "Roosevelt Petrucius Coleslaw" he says Carolynne as well. Any ideas?

It emphasizes the disconnect between the two characters. Rose has never bothered to try and get the pronunciation of Caroline's name correct and Caroline doesn't care enough about her or have any desire to have any "intimacy" in their relationship to bother correcting her (you would only allow someone who you truly don't care a whit about and pay no atention to, to do that). She likes that they're not friends or have any real relationship. Noah also doesn't care enough about Rose to bother correcting her on Caroline's behalf (and the husband as usual just isn't paying attention). This shows just how isolated Rose is in this family unit.
"Carolyn" is also begets a more "northern" and "sophisticated" (Kennedy-esque?) take on the name, subtlely emphasizing how out-of-place Rose is in Louisiana.
Further, it says something about the Rose character -- her "I know better than you" attitude towards her surroundings. She may know perfectly well how Caroline's name has been pronounced, but she's the kind of person who would think "Well, yes, that's how these people say it, but isn't it much better and prettier if I say it this way? Carolyn will thank me for it." Bitch.
The emotional disconnect or obliviousness of Rose was sort of how I was explaining it to myself, but then I get thrown off by Noah pronouncing it Carolynne, but (I think) only that one occasion I mentioned above. Noah certainly knows it's pronounced Caroline. Any idea, Margo?

Doesn't he only pronounce it that way when he's mad at her in the second act? I know he says it correctly in Act I ("Caroline the president of the United States..... who's stronger than my dad"). For him, mispronouncing her name is a little assertion of power on his point.
I dont know if any of you heard, but Caroline, Or Change is closing August 29th. I'm upset because there is no way I will ever be able to get into town and see it before it goes. I enjoy the cast album so much...
come on people lets move the caroline threads to the top of the message boards and give the wicked groopies a run for their money!

EAT THIS WICKED GROUPIES! THERE'S A NEW FANATIC IN TOWN! hehe! We have to save Caroline from closing. Or Caroline will NEVER change... I don't think it will go on tour, though. Who can replace Tonya and do that part in different cities...that would be even more exhausting than doing the show on broadway... OH NO.. I CANT BELIEVE IT'S CLOSING. I'm heart broken *wipes eyes and takes the three kegs of tear water away*

I kind of thought that maybe the fact that this message board actually had two running threads about Caroline meant that the show had turned some kind of corner in terms of popularity.
And I can't dismiss Rose as a bitch, Margo. :) I think she is well-intentioned, even if she goes about things all wrong. Veanne Cox gave such an affecting performance in the role I couldn't help but feel for her. And I know what it's like to be stuck in the middle of a culture you don't like or understand and be expected to get along in it.
